Bloody hell, some departments are slow,we are Dordogne and got ours last November!
I sent you a PM a couple of months ago. Are you still looking at moving to Spain? I was wondering if any EU rights you have acquired in France offer a “free transfer” into Spain?

Sorry.
We have decided to stay put for now.
To answer your question,

It’s not straight forward.
If you possess a TDS(after 5 years residency),you gain the rights to free movement (limited) and can then live in another EU country but you have to be able to support your self.Once you move, you have to start again, not leave the country for long, meet the immigration rules etc.
If you don’t like it you can move back within 2 years and reinstall yourself in the original country.
That said, you are still limited to 90 in 180 if you stay anywhere other than your home country
I hope all that makes sense.

Thanks for that, its pretty much as i had imagined.

My medium term plan is to return to being UK resident for tax purposes and obtain a non-lucrative visa for Spain. The +90-days should still allow me some time to make occasional visits to see friends here - the Schengen loophole.

I have been keeping one eye on Spain and they are being very strict and different areas applying the rules differently, some have been down right illegal in their handling of Brits whom want to immigrate.
If we go to Spain in the future we would definitely employ a lawyer to assist.

Following on from our RDV in Clermont-Ferrand on the 11th of May, our permanent cards arrived with the post today, just over 3 weeks from RDV to delivery so not to shabby.

At last we have dates for our new Cartes de Sejour RDV, almost 8 months to the day from the application. Will be pleased to have that in my pocket in place of the old one, I expect it will see me out!!

I had my RDV 7 weeks ago and still no card, starting to get a bit concerned. My friend who I went with received his within 4 weeks! I'm in the Savoie (73). Not sure if I should sit tight, or email the prefecture.

Well, finally my wife's card arrived this week by registered post, 2 months after mine and my daughters arrived.
No need to visit the prefecture and we still have the old 10 year cards. I wonder if they will become collectable in the future!

Progress at last! Had our RDVs yesterday, cards should arrive in the post in three to four weeks apparently.

A slightly unhappy tale from our visit. The security guard on the door asked if we had a sense of humour and then took us outside to the notice which carries all the info about the Prefecture's garden opening to the public for one day each summer. The info is printed in several languages but not English so the security guard had taken it on himself to tape a translation into English onto the board complete with a little Union Flag. Three times he has taped his translation to the notice board and three times it has been torn off in the night by persons unknown. Not Good.

And finally we have our new TdS 'Article 50', they arrived yesterday. I recall that at one point there was some debate about how long they would be valid for so I'm pleased to see they are for the full ten years.

I don't know what I did wrong but mine is only valid for 5 frown Planning to get nationality before then though so it shouldn't be a problem

If you haven't lived in France very long, say less than five years could be the reason it's only a 5 year card. It was the same for my neighbour.

Bear in mind that the 10 year card is for permanent residency. It gives more freedom to be out of France for long periods. While the residency permission is permanent its just the card that expires in ten years. The five year cardi s temporary. But a ten year cardcan be applied for in due course.
