It is all about learning the geography of French supermarkets...intermarche’s have a wooden truck thing on which they display all the dry sausages...that’s where the chorizo is also.

I don't want the dry chorizo. I've got plenty of that. I want the raw stuff. It releases way more oils into whatever you're cooking.

Unlike the dried ones, they have to be shipped refrigerated and don’t have a long shelf life. So as you can see here, they will only ship within Spain.

This begs the question as to how Auchan, for example, are still selling cheddar. I assume bacon and sausages are out, but the stupid thing is that one can still order sausages, cheddar, beef, gammon, pork and bacon delivered by Bacon by the Box because they are in Eire.

Stuff can still be imported from the UK, but individuals aren't allowed to transport stuff personally.

There isn't a ban on English foods.

But no french shop sells pork pies, bacon, etc. although we do have an english butcher 70 miles away. I've only been once out of curiosity. But I do remember the foot and mouth embargo and they didn't even stop a car at customs. Just waved us all straight through.

That's because nobody with any sense wants pork pies or bacon. wink

Super U at Chabanais should have them and Hyper U St Junian.
For some bizzare reason intermarche only have them in the summer for BBQ according to her indoors.

Thanks. I'll double check the next time we're in Hyper U. Still haven't found cheddar, except some orange grated stuff, but I'm fine with that.

I found a nearby Welsh pig farmer who has set up here and will sell sausages, back bacon, pork pies and sausage rolls (M. Chochon) so we shall give them a try when we've cleared some space in the Freezer.

Our Super U stocks Seriously Strong and their own U brand that is the same size, shape and taste and made in Somerset. Matured 12 months.

Our Carrefour does Wyke Farms cheddar and there's usually one or two different ones at Grand Frais.

So does ours in Saumur - and its very good, no French cheese really compares.

Regarding the fresh Chorizo, this is the first winter we have been in France, so the fact we cannot get it is probably due to it being summer only stock, rather than lockdown related, as i mentioned earlier.

I buy in bulk when I order from Baconbythebox. 800 gms of vintage is €12. They have a new range of pies too I see, if that interests anyone.

BBTB is no cheaper than the supermarket.
It’s a shame we can’t ship it in as Joseph Heler was well priced and reliable.

How could BBTB be cheaper than a supermarket? I don't buy it because it's cheap! Just the fact that it's decent stuff.
The smaller 300 gm vintage is the same price per kilo as the 800 gm packs so makes sense,to me,to get the smaller packets.

I think the new pie range will not be British but not 100% sure on that.

Has anyone got a clue as to where to get nice spicy cooking chorizo? The sort you bung in the oven for 15 minutes or put in a casserole.

If there’s no French supplier is there a website I can use to order it from Spain?
Great news! The fresh Chorizo arrived in our LeClerc this morning.

i thought of a couple of other things..having just returned.

  • 'large' Toothbrushes/ general selection...we have a better selection in UK
  • Horseradish. Cream of Horseradish Over Xmas, this was stocked, but could not find it again.
