Guess who's back again. That's right, thanks to Tony at Doncaster Saab, my Stage 3+ Aero is back on the road!
Tony's great ain't he, have you got a project thread for the 9-5? Which turbo are you planning to take it to 500 bhp?

He helped me with my old Saabs:

340 bhp 520 NM 19t https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKBcEpyvmPA

450+ bhp GT3071r https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc_CvBCLCfc

Stage 3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKUR8gkWc2E

Have since been exploring lighter.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNUlfEdwU0c

and heavier.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9K7zqjIMdA

Going for a spin in my old 9-5 next weekend which Tony has helped the new owner take north of 400 bhp, should give the E55 a run for its money!

This is my £500 9-3 aero. Had it since August 2018, knocks like a biatch, has a rear arch made from filler and another on its way to rust. Love it to bits it's the most reliable car I've ever owned. Had to fit a new radiator, rear arms and drop links.
I've had to replace the headlight ballasts and heater motor resistor as i decided it was a good idea to drive through a flood that was up to the rub strips. (it was £500 so amusing).
Most reliable car I've ever owned no matter what i throw at it. Can't see me getting rid even if it dies.

As it happened I came across your old 9-5 when I was dropping my car off!

Your original build thread is what gave me the idea to get in contact with Tony, and I'm glad I did. I've got no major plans in motion as yet for how I'm going to achieve the power I want, but once I do I'll get a build thread going. First steps will be brakes and tires though, seeing as the car really likes going but isn't too happy about stopping...

Cars currently looked after by Abbott racing, but I'm moving up to Yorkshire soon. Looks like this Tony comes well reviewed and isn't a drive down to Essex..?

I can't recommend Tony enough, lovely guy with a great amount of experience. Located in Doncaster too, so will be handy for you in Yorkshire!

Fancy that! Love that it's got a bit of a legacy, Tony will be able to help you with a bigger turbo if you decide to get one. How come you haven't tried a 19t you've got all the necessary hardware?

Well me and my other Saab owning mate use your thread as a reference all the time, so it's definitely created a legacy! It's just down to money on why I haven't stepped it up yet, once my bank account begins to look healthy again I'll be looking for a 19T in no time.

They always seem to need something these Saabs!. Yours looks fantastic in silver. Having owned a smaller hybrid powered Saab and a big turbo GT30, if it's acceleration you're after then the 19t accelerates just as hard in 3rd as the GT30 does in 4th. You can actually enjoy a 19T at legal(ish) speeds whereas a big turbo doesn't take off until 70+. Another alternative with fast spool here: http://www.stavtech.co.uk/home/stavs-tech-tips-the...

My current problem is the auto box, no lsd options and limited on how much power I can put through it. It's a shame there's no auto box companies in the UK that can upgrade the box for a reasonable (not 10k+) amount.

Currently on a GT25, since a GT28/30 would be too laggy/powerful for the autobox, but I think it would be fun. Especially as the engines been forged. Still on standard injectors with an uprated FPR too, so injectors if I wanted more but 380BHP is ok for now.

Well for the moment I'd prefer not to get nicked for speeding, so I'll probably lean more towards the 19T or the Holset. Thanks for all the info by the way, always nice to find someone willing to share their builds so openly!

It would be a bit expensive, but have you considered picking up a manual Aero instead, you might run into less issues that way?

Kind of kills the point of a lazy motorway cruising family estate smile

There's several companies in the states and australia that can upgrade automatic gearboxes. Uprated clutch packs, hydraulics etc etc for reasonable rates. UK stuff all seems to be "We'll swap in a completely different transmission, so need all the controllers etc too".

Just means I've reached the final point I can with this car (as much as a car project can be "complete").

Ah very true, you can't beat that aspect of the automatic! To be honest, 380hp in the real world makes for an incredibly quick car, not much out there can compete with that. And if you're wanting a comfy motorway cruiser, I wouldn't bother pushing it too much further.
