I'm hopefully going to see this 9-3 this week. Any advice?

I know little about these, could I be walking into a world of trouble? What do I need to look for?

What kind of mpg are people getting out of theirs? My commute is only 4 miles so I can't see me getting much.

the link you posted gives the mpg figures...
but my 2006 Aero convertible is currently giving me 30.8mpg this goes up slightly in the warmer weather. My round trip to work is 18miles and i use push bike 2/3 times per week and car the rest...
mine Aero is a 5 speed, and you can't use 5th until your traveling over 40mph...
flip side of course is a great motorway cruiser...
service parts are dirt cheap...airfilter, oilfilter, pollen filter all vauxhall stuff....spark plugs are every 37k, and cost £29 for a NGK set.
brake parts, again are vauxhall parts, so Euro car parts makes things very easy.
I use Mobile 1 oil and buy that from Amazon....
of course theres still SAAB dealers and Neo brothers for other bits...

Thanks,. The MPG figures on auto trader are official figures, I was looking to see what people real world experiences were.

OH, I seem to remember....might be wrong....
that cambelt is due at 75,000 miles....so might be worth asking if the one your looking at has been changed...if not get a quote for the work should mean you'll be able to haggle a bit more on the price...hahaha....

These are chain driven on the petrol engines (don't know about the diesels as I've got a petrol) so no need for any of that. £1900 is still a good price for one of these in good nick.

HAHAAH i never knew that.....you learn something new everyday...

.
cut and pasted this....
.
There are 3 2.0 Petrol Turbo Engines:

1.8t is a 1998cc Turbocharged engine with 150BHP
2.0t is a 1998cc Turbocharged engine with 175BHP
2.0T (Big T) is a 1998cc Turbocharged engine with 210BHP (Badged Aero in the UK)

All are timing chain based and the 1.8t and 2.0t are identical with the exception of different engine management software and a Turbo gauge on the dashboard.

The 2,0T (Aero) has a larger Mitsubishi TD04 Turbo which has a bit more lag at low end, but more oomph mid range and high end.

when i bought my Aero soft top the misses said "its not practical"
why do you NEED 210hp and a TENT instead of a roof...
.
so.....i have to prove her wrong....
.
When i donated an old, hand me down dining room table to a mate at work using the SAAB...easy....
Roof down....table on back seats...table legs removed...Roof up....
drive to work..(well it was raining)
.
same with the pedal bike....
.
Tree....roof down....tree on back seat...drive slower on way home....otherwise the apples on said tree would have falled off...
.
even the misses was silenced...and shes gets paid to talk....(teacher)
.
she wanted me to buy a 1.3 Fiesta....
.
man maths winner....limited milage insurance and pedal bike...
Use pedal bike on short trips.
So better mpg when i do drive compaired to her car.
Plus my spares are also cheaper than hers.

I went to view the car last night, it seemed OK on the whole but it had a very patch service history, oil level was very low and the owner was very unsympathetic to the car when he took it out. Four different the brand on it too, the two front one being ditch finders.

A friend looked at it and he didn't think it had suffered too badly because of this.

I would avoid like the plague personally, buy on condition and history. 4 same brand tyres, oil changes every 8-10k (i do 6k on mine and its the perfect interval in my experience) and the usual checks.

That's what I've decided to do. There's another about an hour away which is around £400 more but seems a much better buy.

I give up, travelled an hour to see a car in Swansea described as in excellent condition to find a car with multiple dents on the roof, cracked windscreen, bodged alloy repairs and an engine bay covered in oil. The car was hot when I got there so they had obviously taken it out for a run to hide something.

Hiya mate wavey

Yes - I get BETTER mpg after the map than before. You can't lose...except when you give it beans coz you are playing with your new acceleration hehe

From memory going up to Nottingham from my gaff at around 75mph on the speedo I got c.27/28. Coming back...when I may/may not have slightly exceeded that on maybe/maybe not 1 occasion or more...plus some stop/start traffic where it would have been rude not to try out the new accleration, I got c.30mpg smile

Google him or join UKSaabs - its free and there is more Saab info/advice over there.

NB Other Saab forums are available smile...its just I havent joined them!
