A pilot scheme which has seen action taken against dangerous drivers is being expanded across UK.

Good. I'm sick of taking my life in my hands when I get in the car now. Every day I have to dodge out the way of some moron, be it cutting lanes on roundabouts up, being unable to overtake on a motorway and still being half in my lane when they pass me, pulling out of junctions without looking etc.

Last week I had the worse near miss ever, I have no idea how I'm not in hospital right now. 70mph on the motorway, moved out to let 3 cars out a slip road. Rear car decided to pull out when I was a nose in front of him, hit my wing mirror and pushed me into the central reservation, 2 wheels in the gravel and a very close to rear end letting go moment. No idea how I held onto it when 2 wheels touched gravel at 70mph. He basically pushed up the middle of the 2 lanes trying to make a third because he couldn't wait 2 seconds while I passed him, I was going much faster than them anyway.

I only avoided a huge accident because I don't trust anyone on the road and was already watching them as he moved out. Sods law though, the dash cam didn't capture it. Got home to find that it had ran out of memory and didn't write over the oldest file. Furious to say the least and my girlfriend was terrified. Too many people now are willing to end or seriously alter someone else's life so they can hurry up and get to the back of the next queue of traffic 0.4 seconds quicker.

People only drive like that because they think there are no repercussions for them. If my camera had caught that on tape I was going to submit it and push for dangerous driving, I'd happily go to court if need be. A driver like that it's not a question of if they kill someone, it's when and he needs removed from the roads before that happens. He was fully aware of what he was doing.

Hopefully I'll catch you speeding,going through a light,cutting a hatched area first.
The laws the law,but maybe your drivings perfect.

Isn't this how the Stasi worked, members of the public dobbing each other in to the state? I don't like it one bit.

Therein lies the problem - where does it stop?

It doesn't because people like boost above have no clue where it leads.

Great idea, though unfortunately it doesn't go far enough.

I'll only feel safe when we are all issued with a personal body cam linked directly to the (thought) police.

I bet the local community speed watch crew creamed their underpants reading that report, no longer do they have to wait for their turn on the rota to do their bit, they can just drive around filming people.

I've read that Any clip that goes on social media before a decision is made by the police/court cannot be used as part of a prosecution which rules out many as its the first thing these types of cretins run to.

Hmm, am in two minds about this. I saw some shockers on our road trip to Cornwall. Some people really should not be on the road. Undertaking at over 100mph, 3 cars racing.

This all sounds well and good, except you just know it'll lead to the 40mph everywhere brigade speeding up on the straight visible bits solely to force overtakes over the limit and dob in because they have that mindset.

I've read all the posts and can't see the problem with any of those issues. If I see a crime, I'll report it. Having video footage makes it easier to prove.

As for the video wording. Privacy? Those clips were on public roads. Don't drive like a tt then.

I struggled to believe this when I first saw it. Pretty terrifying.

Let's just go the full hog - State-controlled video upload service mandated for every single journey which analyses the footage automatically & issues punishments for everyt single minor transgression that can't be argued with.

Yup. I passed a car doing exactly that last night. Doing less than 40mph on an A road - down to 30mph in places - but when i passed in the A45 as they were speeding up on the only straight for several miles, there was horn blaring, gesticulations and flashing of lights after i went past. rolleyes

I cant imagine driving the way she does its the first time shes ever been overtaken, but i'd imagine if she'd had a dashcam she'd have dobbed me in for my "crime"
