I am already thinking of adding the sport exhaust to the car when it has its first service. The dealer has said that this system has not arrived yet should be another month or so.

It is about £500 to have this fitted, my question is, is it worth the money ??????

that entirely depends upon how realistic your expectations are, and how you decide what 'value for money' really is! Aren't I all Zen? *grin*

I'be just had the sports exhaust fitted at the first service.

I wouldn't say its good value but the engine note at low revs was horrible, and in my opinion the sports exhaust note is good, and not too loud, though I find it a bit oppressive with the roof off.

Elise with loud stereo? Yeah, and chrome "M3" mirrors, 18" three spoke wheels, and Max Power seat belt cosies.

What increase BHP do Lotus say you get with the sports exhaust ?? From what i've heard it's mostly about the exhaust note - which i'm sure is worth it alone !

I have also heard from a Lotus engineer (second hand info ie someone I know who spoke to the engineer) is that the gearing on the 111 has been lengthen from 3rd upwards to make it a little more of a "tourer" if your looking for improved performance (not top end but power through the gears) then a std elise gearbox is the thing to go for as the ratios are shorter - if money is no object !

Don't go to Lotus for your Sports silencer !!
Race-speed.com offer the origonal factory approved Janspeed silencer. This was the origonal one supplied when the S2 came out until Janspeed went bump, 2 months later they re-started offering the Lotus range of exhausts they use to make for them under an exclusivity comntract.

Made in stainless steel
Lifetime warrantly
Cost I think is £ 325.00 inc VAT and Free delivery.
Sounds great

Get the ITG air filter and Janspeed exhaust from PTP limited - The noise is fantastic - you can get it for
Exhaust - Janspeed 276+vat
ITG Carbon Airfilter - 299+vat

The sound is just superb.

What's being quoted for the power increase for these exhaust / induction options ??

Also has anyone any experience of how Lotus will view the warrenty on cars where non Lotus parts are fitted and or where parts are self fitted / non dealer fitted ?

Thats the reason I went for a pukka Lotus item - for the sake of saving £100 pound or so once fitted for a non-Lotus item, I don't see the point of leaving yourself wideopen in a warranty dispute.

Yep,

Tend to agree, if you blow your engine and Lotus choose to invalidate your warranty because of a none Lotus part your left with a pretty expensive problem.

All for the sake of maybe a few BHP and a different engine note.

There is also the argument with your insurance company that if you have a Lotus part fitted that it's not a "modification" as it's only a Lotus "option" :-)

There is no one number. The effect is more if everything is in balance. i.e. a freer exhaust will give more hp if the induction and valves are already breathing better than on a stock engine. I've seen numbers between 5 and 15hp depending upon the state of tune that you are starting with.

Before you get the exhaust - check your current one, mine (S2) was rusting after 3 months - is seemingly the case with a lot of cars. Not acceptable for a new car the ends up costing 26000 quid. Complain, myself and it seems quite a few other people have had them replaced and as a token of goodwill especially as you've probably had other warranty problems the fitted a sports exhaust as a replacement under warranty. Remember if they want to compete with Porsche et al the whole package has to compete not just the looks and handling. When/if they redo the M250 they need brand loyal customers to upgrade and not just move to Boxters, 911's etc...

The Lotus sport exhaust for the Elise is quite poor - under hard use it reverts to the stock habits of blowing out the baffles.
We're not big fans of the Janspeed either.... quality of manufacture isn't quite there as the mountings start degrading.....

Pop into our office in Egham - I will not be in till later but ajay will: ajay@scuderiasystems.com or 01784 434394 - if not I'll email a few piccys - it's pricey compared to the others available but we reckon it's the best system out there...(but then I would say that.)

Manu

Could you please e-mail a few pics. to me also as I am in the market for a good system for the S2. What are the benefits of your system?, is it just better sound & build quality, or are there power advantages?

Also, do you do a complete system including manifold?, or just the back box?

Cheers
Jim.

Manu,

Apologies for jumping on the bandwagon. Could you copy me in on those pics too. I was going to plump for a Janspeed from PTP but now I'm not so sure. Thanks

Phil
