Also, the Elise is most definitely not about acceleration, but more about finesse, so us owners will not really be upset if someone pulls away from the lights more rapidly.
If we were looking to comapre, though, I doubt that in most situations an Impreza would pull away all that much more quickly. The Elise will manage 0-60 in about 5.5, and its 0-30 is perhaps a touch better, so you will be roughly equal 6 seconds after take-off. Beyond that, it's a bit academic on the public roads.
The "who's car is quicker away from the lights" debate is entirely academic as everyone knows that any passing sportsbike is going to make your car look silly.
The real question (and I think this is worthy of debate) is who is enjoying their car the most. Having never driven a Subaru I can only imagine the sort of constant smirk you get from reving the flat four (have driven flat fours
), looking out over the bonnet scoop, etc. Have driven Elises and they make you smile all the time too. I've driven lots of rep spec Vectras and they don't make you smile at all (apart from the handbrake).
