Hi All,

im considering buying a Lotus Exige 1.8 2dr where it was registered in 2007 for about £21000 with about 37000 miles.

I would like to get some peoples advice on buying a lotus with a registration of 2007 in terms of

a)if I look 7 years down the line after buying it and it had kept with its full services each year and generally looked after well, what sort of selling price could I expect in 7 years time?

b)what kind of mileage do lotus cars generally last up untill?

c)what sort of risks would be involved with a 2007 plate

I would be using the car max 50-100 miles a week

thanks for your advice

Crystal ball questions IMO. Lotus prices are generally quite stable right now (I've got a 2006 111R that'll be going up for sale shortly and I don't expect to lose too much having had it for 3 years) but 7 years is a very long time!! Mileage wise, there seems to be a bit of a stigma about 50k miles but these are Toyota engines and I've seen cars with 100k+ miles although they take a hit on resale. As long as you keep the suspension fresh, there's not a lot more that can go wrong with them - brilliantly simple cars smile

You heading north to have a look at that car? I think we might have spotted the same car in AutoTrader.

from a perspective of retained value, bar GT Porsches and that whole bonkers bizarre world of limited edition exotica the Elise and Exige after 3 years hold their value better than any other car really.

that's why they hit both of ends of the buying scale, irrational as its a 2 seater that's fairly hard-core and sensible as they depreciate very slowly and in recent years have endured a steady increase in values.

so look after and service it and you'll basically lose nothing on value, that's why if you come across a neglected car run away. No excuse for it.
