Hello all...I have a 2000 spec 160 sport and recently the steering wheel has developed some play in the straight on position. My dealer says there's nothing wrong...well I don't like it : the steering feel is the best bit about the elise I think. Also the rear suspension scitters, bounces and crashes like it never used to...do I need new bushes ? Your expertise would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Could be a worn steering rack. What is the state of the rack gaitors like?
It's worth checking your steering column has no play before blaming the steering rack.

Rear. Not healthy or safe, bushes sounds plausible but have you checked tyre pressures front and rear (wrong pressures at the front can affect handling at the rear). Could also be worn shocks?

hmm could be the bushes - mine has always been a bit crashy

Think pot black sound effects ! - could be the excuse to put the leda shocks on you have been looking for !

There are 2 things to check...

move your wheels with your hands they should be tight as you like. I.E. no play. When you move your wheels your steering wheel should move straight away.

Also if you can check your shocks and the ride height of your machine. IF the car feels like it is tilting to one side one of your shocks could have gone. (Take off you wheels one at a time and see if there is any juice coming out of the shock.)
