looks like opel/vauxhall takes the lead in diesel engined leight weight cars on Lotus. this one was clocked at 250km/h, has a 1.3L turbo diesel engine with 112 BHP and has a euromix consumption of 2.5 l/100 km. Well Lotus where is the ECOS ???www.automagazine.be/jpg/NEWS/NEWS5771.jpg

Very impressive performance, but I guess Diesel has a long way to go before they get to an acceptable HP-level. I whish Lotus would combine their expertise in two stroke engines (light and lots of power) with their expertise in electrical driven cars. It would allow the two stroke engine to run at conditions that are benificial for the emissions. Think about the fact that the electrical engines need to deliver top power for only 4 seconds (0-60 mph). For the rest of the trip, they can contribute to the preservation of energy and reduction of emissions. With electrical motors driving the front wheels, you would have 4wd that would improve handling and acceleration. The added weight for the electrical power could be compenstated for by a light weight two-stroke engine.
