He mentioned no packing and that it is lighter than the QP exhaust and should be in region of 98db, although he did think I may well need the 350mm cans if I went to Bedford Etc,

I have 2 main concerns though :

One is the fact you are running a QP system and still needed the 350mm cans for some circuits. If I opt for the road/track system and even with the cans struggle to get on track then it defeats the whole object.

Two is I run a Komotec airbox and manifolds which require a bit more fettling by Jim.

A bit of a dilemma although I have survived so far because of the circuits I use and short shifting but do need a solution as it a pain in the arse.

A lot of the noise from the 410/30 is from induction and charger whine. Unfortunately there's not a huge amount anyone can do about it. At Goodwood I can definitely say this is sometimes more problematic than the exhaust when really pushing.

maybe you can put a antisound thing (resonator) in the inlet system, some cars come with those, cost no horsepower, air just passes along the hole with the box on it and generates a antisound, that way it can shave of some db.

I have 2 resonators in my Z3 s65 inlets (because open sport filter and aluminium air collector) and also 2 sort Helmholtz/sidebranche db killers in my (straight trough) exhaust system.

It's certainly worth looking into, especially if I am to continue visiting Goodwood regularly.

Jim is going to make me up some small angled tips for the QP system for those 105 days where I don't want to use the cans. At a couple of points on the circuit I could do with diverting the sound away from the meters (exiting Madgwick is usually a 4th gear to 5th shift at the redline). Hopefully that'll be enough to kill off the remaining driveby snags on those sensitive overcast days.

Freshened up the red pinstripe over the weekend. Looks much neater again now. No more black rubber marks from the track:

The gift that keeps on giving...... this Lotus 410 just gets better and better smile

Yesterday we were back at Goodwood again for another morning on the track. Unfortunately we only got out for 3 X 15 minute sessions, but we got lucky on the second stint and managed to put in a couple of flyers. A new PB of 1m28s and I'm confident there's a second or two to be found at Fordwater by staying flat through it (twitchy arse) and being braver through the Chicane.

Amazingly this is all on the same tyres the car rolled out the factory on. 10,000 miles and around 1000 laps done they still have nearly 4mm on them. Incredible that they're still allowing me to go faster than I have before.

On the wear and tear topic, I'll be ordering the 343mm Alcon kit from Seriously Lotus in the coming weeks. The cost of OEM discs is bonkers as you can't buy the separate rotors, only the complete disc. At around £1500 less you can fit the Alcon items and potentially have increased brake life due to the larger surface area. Hopefully it's a no brainer.

Anyway, here's the 2nd session in full with the PB included. https://youtu.be/txq54GsCeT4

Next month we're hoping to be at the Ring for the next DN event...... not holding our breath though!

Surprised about the Alcons as I priced them up at about £2,800 with pads and delivery with fitting extra on top. Be interesting how you get on

Worked out more expensive than dealer supply and fit of OEM.

How much did you pay for your J-hooks? I worked it out at circa £3000 for discs alone from a dealer or £2700 from Dave. Pads and fitting on top.

The 343mm Alcon rotor kit is around £2000 Inc pads as you can use the OEM bells from the J-hooks.

Got a good deal on them at £2,750 but also considered keeping the bells and using Alcons but decided on all OEM after experimenting with different pads in the past. Not really felt there was much wrong with the Cup 430 brakes

Agreed, definitely nothing wrong with the oem setup. As I plan to keep the car long term it makes sense if i can save over £1000 each time I need discs.

Yes that’s makes sense as seems the bells don’t really wear.

I may go this route next time

Back at a very warm Goodwood yesterday with my favourite TDO. It was a quiet (98db) day so we fitted the extra 350mm cans and happily had no noise boards or black flags over the 4 afternoon sessions. On the downside I wasn't feeling that on-form and it took me a couple of sessions to find my stride. The tyres have started to show their age too, with the first two sessions seeing me overshoot fractionally on the braking zones and in the 3rd session I had an unexpected slide into Lavant, which almost looked intentional lol

https://youtu.be/lLAnsbfISEY

PHer Breadvan jumped in with me for a great session chasing down some of the quicker cars: https://youtu.be/jywwpFTEWSE

All in we had a good end to the day and even with the heat and traffic managed a couple of back to back consistent 1m29s laps.

We're definitely not at the Ring this week (supposed to be at DN on Friday), but we are back at Thruxton on the 21st for the first time since last summer and then on to Anglesey on the 28th. I've never done Anglesey before so I'm looking forward ticking that box and placing another sticker on the tailgate. Before all that, new Cup2 tyres to go on along with discs and pads.

Eddie

Received some directional tips from Jim at 2bular yesterday. On those days where I'm just hitting the noise limits at Goodwood or Brands and I don't want to fit the 350mm cans, these should knock off a couple of dB by pointing the noise away from the meters. Hopefully I won't need to use them, but they're good to have around.

Just a brief update today.....

Fitted the Sliplo kit from Alias23 the other day: Piece of cake to apply as it's already fitted with mega sticky adhesive (you only get one shot at sticking it right) and there's a couple of spares in the kit should I need them.

Went to a soggy Thruxton yesterday and banged in 67 laps. None of them where overly quick, but I was impressed by the grip that Cup2s offer in these warm and soaking conditions. I'm really pleased with the way the car is handling and can't think of any improvement needed on the geo.

We've got Anglesey next Monday with Opentrack. It'll be our first time there so I'm hoping for good weather smile

A week late, but here's my update from the Anglesey trip last weekend.

Sunday morning, 7am. Myself and Darren left Ringwood with a plan to drive the long and scenic route to Wales most "out of the way" motoring attraction. Via Salisbury, the Deverils, through the Brecon Beacons and then over the firing range roads to Snowdonia and Anglesey. Over 9hrs of motoring pleasure smile

The following morning the weather was glorious, as it was the previous day driving through the national park. I think this may have been the first time I'd seen Wales in the sunshine smile

3 sessions out on the International Circuit in the morning and a 25 minute stint on the Coastal layout after lunch before packing up and heading home. Quite a long way to go for a half day, but very much worth it for the rare opportunity to drive it dry.

And a couple if vids from the day:

https://youtu.be/j06RCiXiquU

https://youtu.be/Sib6BicOQAI

https://youtu.be/duh8l2qHUJE

Back home and 1000 miles later it was time to give the car a good check over:

Wheels off and an attempt to get rid of all the baked on brake dust from the rears:

And an inspection of the suspension and brakes:

Wheels back on, check pressures and the obligatory snow foam and wash pic lol

We've got a couple of weeks off now but will be at Goodwood again on the 19th. In the meantime I'll be making a mod or 2 to the car and looking into a new venture fo that will hopefully come into action in August.

On a side note, those of you who follow Nigel Pinder and his Golf antics.... he's been doing some fantastic videos with running commentary. He recommended that I do some of my own to improve my learning and to also share the fun. Here's one from Goodwood last month: You may have already seen the video without the audio, but i recorded it at the time to add later smile

Back soon.
