I probably will to be honest. I have already looked at it. The only 'problem' is that the CUP2's seem to last so long it'll be 2 or 3 years before I need to replace them! (And I can't bring myself to dump perfectly good tyres just to get the Connect Kit).
To be honest, I don't think you need the live data on track. I manage perfectly fine with a digital gauge and compressor.

Yeah, it's obviously not a necessity, but it was surprisingly nice to have.

Out of all the cars I've tracked, only one has had live tyre pressure data. It just made life a bit easier in terms of seeing exactly how quickly pressure was going up initially, and also when it had stabilised. So you weren't potentially doing half a session on over inflated tyres and then just dropping them down when you pitted at the end. If the pressures went up more quickly than expected I'd nip in the pits, drop them down and go straight back out.

I don't agree with the digital gauge part though. You can't beat a nice old style analogue gauge with a pressure release button. biggrin

Yeah, they have tpms. Mine shows an error on some trackdays until the tyres get warm. It tells you which tyre too.
OK so if my 410 has TPMS where can I see it as I’ve not discovered it yet lol.

I don't think it's a pressure monitor. I think it just measures rolling radius. They won't have added monitored valves because of weight.

Edited: I stand corrected. Apparently they are pressure valves in the wheel.

It looks like we're coming to the end of the 2021 trackday season, and it's not been a bad one all things considered. I don't think we've done quite as many as last year due to a more tricky trackday calendar and the fact that many dates are booked up well in advance, but we've done more than most I guess. There's a chance we may get another day at Goodwood before Christmas but outside that I think we're pretty much done.

So, what have we been up to of late?

The season finisher was our trip to Spa last week, using up the credit note we'd got from our cancelled 2020 date...... booked with the ever reliable and friendly people at Opentrack. Wanting to make the most of the trip I decided to include a short stop at the Ring on the way(??). We left home early last Sunday after what was a pretty god awful sleep...... or lack of. I always struggle with sleep before a big car trip / trackday which is hugely annoying because it's the sort of activity where good sleep is key to success and safety. 2.5hrs to Folkestone in the dark with a banging headache wasn't much fun and even with coffee the 4.5hr drive from Calais to Nurburg felt like the end of my life. I was even considering jacking the car game in, I was that tired. Luckily the weather wasn't doing what the forecast had predicted and it remained dry for the whole journey. We got there around 1.45pm and with my Ring Pass already loaded with euros I swiped in on the first lap.

It's very much autumn at the Ring now and there was evidence of a damp and cold morning drying out in the early afternoon daylight. The guys at the barrier told me to be careful on the circuit because of the leaf fall and you could really see why. I did just that and made my way carefully around the course. The photographers were out in force as usual and those that had foolishly played up to the cameras had left evidence behind in the form of grass and mud chucked onto the track.

Hitting the track during quiet season has its perks and it was good to meet up with Billy Burke at DD for a natter. Guys like him are usually mega busy lapping and working so it was a good opportunity to put a face to a name.

From there I cracked another lap for good luck (surprisingly sunny) and then hit the shops for a bit of NRing retail and a photo opportunity. It had to be done.

A quick refuel at the obvious petrol station / gift shop and we headed out on a 90 minute route to La Source outside Spa.

Happily I did sleep a bit that night and on the Monday morning made my way to the circuit via the petrol station.

The weather was foggy and the ground was wet. The forecast said it'd be wet during the day too so I wasn't holding a huge amount of hope for a good or quick lap.

The bad weather never came, and after a pretty slippery first couple of hours a dry line began to appear just before lunch. Result!!

The afternoon was excellent, if a little expensive with frequent fuel stops. I think we managed 46 laps and did 4 tanks of fuel at €1.85ltr. Actually, €1.85 is pretty standard in Europe now for 98. I saw it as high as €1.97 on the motorway too :/ 10 tanks of fuel over the weekend at that price is something that's best kept from the wife I reckon lol.

Anyway, here's a bunch of pics from the day. There was another chap there who has a TVS powered Exige and as he has more experience of Spa than I do it was great to follow / push him round for a few sessions. By the late afternoon, when it's dried out enough to push on we were lapping around 2.55-2.57 pace consistently. My highest speed down Kemmell was 149mph GPS so that's not too bad either.

And a vid of myself and James lapping in the morning as it started to dry out. Unfortunately the later sessions were never recorded because the SD was full. Doh!

We'll definitely do Spa again..... hopefully on a dry and warm day smile I'd go so far as to say it's my favourite circuit now, it's such a great place.

Finishing pic: As I left the hotel

Oh, and I also met Mat Watson and Sam Maher-Loughnan. They were there with a 600LT doing some vid stuff. Both really top guys and I wish I'd had more time to chat to Sam about his work.

We got home on Tuesday after 1400 miles of solid mortoring. It was probably a bit much with the lack of sleep but at the end of the day you have to pay to play.

2nd service tomorrow at Hendy Poole

End of season update coming, but here's a couple of pics from a very cold and slippery Goodwood on Monday.

Any recommendations for a top road/track tyre for wet/colder conditions

If PS4S came in our sizes I'd say go with those, but they don't. Otherwise, I'm not really sure. There's no doubt a race wet out there that's great as a winter "do all", but I've no idea what it is. It's probably not road legal, which defeats the purpose in my opinion.

Yes that’s the issue really, they do a PS4S in a 295 and a PS4 in a 215 but that’s it

Still not had time to type the "end of season" thing .... but I did fit a 430 wing. It's on Max88 extended uprights which are 50mm taller than OEM. Hopefully it won't be too long before we can test it out.

Spoke to Jim today concerning his QP exhaust and he was very complimentary about you.

I had a really good chat with him and because I don’t do the worst noise restricted circuits, most are 98db driveby that I do or higher, he was advising that the 70mm non valved Track/Road system may be best and add the cans in case.

Did you consider this ? Or are the circuits you do lower db’s
Did you end up fitting this Rocketreid? Any feedback? Reason I ask is that I have recently acquired a 410 with a view to doing track days and looking at the cost difference between track/road and QP I'm tempted to go for the cheaper option. Any thoughts on what your experience its on various tracks?

Hi Mark,

Yes i went for the full system.

The OEM manifolds/cat are pretty horrendous

Jim provides the additional rear mufflers although not had to use them yet.

I’ve done Silverstone, Donington, Thruxton, and Cadwell with no issues at all.

Also just a 45 min job to swap the TI back box on when I’m not tracking

Not posted here for a little bit, due to the half dozen other 410/420 owner threads lol.

Anyway, 16k miles on and still loving it. Definitely a long termer for me. Maybe permanent.

And a few quick-ish laps from Silverstone GP with LoT. https://youtu.be/47xkNnwlJPs
