Its easy, Get a 111R, but dont get the Touring Pack. I was told that the touring pack adds in the region of 40Kgs.
In my opinion thats rediculous, most of the wieght comes from the additional sound insualtion and the thermal liner roof. Whats the point !!!!. I want to hear the engine, and it aint cold without the liner.

Think about it, you are buying a light weight car then payiny X amount of thousands of pounds to make it heavier. I'm trying to get the money together to make it lighter not heavier.

I await the fallout and ridicule

thats why they have the option packs - so yo can choose....for a track car then you could get a base spec 111R (875kg) and put the motorsport wheels/tyres/suspension on it as per the Exige - sorted.

For a daily driver then I can understand people wanting the air-con etc......but the difference between no options and full options is like 55-60Kg ...thats like removing a passenger from the car !

Cant say i'm bothered. The Elise / Exige is still a small light car and the improvement in power, speed and grip of the Exige will do very nicely for me thank you very much.

If you just want a pure very light track car but a Caterham. If you want a road / track car which is fairly practical the Elise / Exige is spot on.

Wait, is this article claiming that Toyota has a supercharger kit in the US for the 2ZZ ? Last I heard, TRD only makes one for the 1ZZ, an entirely different engine.

If anyone has links to show a TRD 2ZZ Supercharger ...

Petergun, as I understand it, this is not a TRD part, but one developed by Lotus in-house specifically for their cars. However, I seem to recall reading somewhere that Blitz have developed a supercharger for this engine as well, but for Celica application only.

www.fensport.co.uk/products.htm

Follow the link to ZZT230 Celica then look in engine tuning. Right at the bottom there is a blitz supercharger. Not very good so I have been told.

What a car the Exige 240R!

Even if they brought out a new one at 43,000 £ it's a bit over my budget.
And i think it's the sort of car you'll never find used in new like shape.

I was at an RMA trackday at Donington Park last weekend. Lotus was there with a bunch of prospective customers, letting them drive Exiges and Elises. There was a 240R there, but not on the track.

As I was studying the 240R I asked a few questions of the Lotus guys. They figured that the 240R is loaded with A/C, carpets, sound insulation, radio, leccy windows, and anything else they could fit on. This leaves room for a stripped down, 135R-type, trackday focused version later on! There may only be 50 240Rs, but the trackday model would presumably be sufficiently differentiated that they could make a lot more. A clever plan.

The aftermarket conversion kit WILL come. NO DOUBT!. But.....it's not just the supercharger and ECU etc, you also need the accusump to keep the engine oil pressure up during the high G cornering. The Exige has such awesome grip that they have fitted an accusump in the boot to keep the pressure up. oooh, this is gonna cost big money for all this kit.Oh, and the brakes will need an upgrade too to keep up with the power increase.

At the risk of turning this site into SELOC with all the Honda stuff flying round the Honda isnt the perfect car and isnt for everyone.

Hugely fast yes but you will still be driving an old S1 with the old interior and other bits. For some prople the engine isnt the be all and end all of the car.

If you have lots of cash for a 2nd or 3rd car just for track use or summer days then its fine. As an everyday car though its still compromised.

Plus to my mind once you convert it, put on different suspension etc you loose most of the Lotusness of it to the point it just becomes a kit car with a lotus Chassis / body

Will be very interested in the outcome of Thorneys tuners challenge

you could say that about every standard Elise ...as thats what Lotus keep doing - revise the suspension, change the engine etc

..maybe none are true Lotus' as they dont have Lotus' engines...so they all must be kit cars etc

...agree with the rest though - horses for courses, different circmstances/requirements...some people like to tinker - others like a new car/factory warranty etc ...anything Elise based is awesome anyway
