Elise Type 49

Another Elise from the Heritage range plays homage to the F1 car of the same name.

Why? Eh? Someone tell me that. Every so often Lotus produce one of these special editions with odd paintwork, and almost without exception they look hideous.

It certainly doesn't suit the lines of the S2. Makes it look like a boat.

It looks horrid, just awful. Come on Lotus pull your finger out and get on with making new cars, not painting old ones!

I assure you it looks great in the flesh. I was along side one at a couple of sets of lights in Norwich the other day befor it disappeared into the distance!

I'll have to take your word for it! The only special edition I've seen that I've actaully liked was the type 72.

Can't say I'm convinced about the gold wheels though. Much better looking than the type 25, which looks so wrong in the photo

Agree with majority of above observations - takes more than a lick of paint and a limited edition run to move new cars on - stop looking back Lotus - look forward.. - car needs more grunt in std form. s2 Elise - handling, looks - unsurpassed, performance (especially >60mph - could do MUCH better.

I think it looks ok, but borders on tacky. Thinner white along the bottom, a different shade of red, and either a softer gold or some other wheel color. How about white or brushed aluminum?

Sorry Lotus need to try something other than different paint colours !!

I'm disapointed that this is the best that they can do for the motor show... come on lotus... we are looking for the S2.5 at the very least....

however the type 49 jobby suits the s2 much better than when they put it on the s1...

must've had some stickers leftover maybe.

i'm highly tempted to get a black model, design a bodykit and make the elise type darth vader...
i feel it could then be successfully followed by the white stormtrooper, gold c3po, and the crowning showpiece, the brown shag-fur covered elise type chewie... dream on brothers, dream on

Hey

Jim Clark never raced the Golden Leaf one and the race car picture is Graham Hill!

Clark did race the Type 49 (which refers to the car, not necessarily the paint scheme).

So yes, the article could be mis-leading. But it does not actually state that Clark drove a 49 in Gold Leaf colours.

When is the Camel scheme coming, or the Castrol colours perhaps?

Thats funny... A co-worker who I asked for an opinion on what color (blue, yellow, or orange) I should choose for my US Elise S2 suggested the Camel colors to me yesterday.

Nothing besides the "official" announcement of January 2004 by Lotus at the LOG recently. Hopefully an engine announcement will follow soon, I'm becoming rather impatient.
