I should go back and have a look i guess at the road surface. Its a strange roundabout...almost like its 'sunken' into the road so it dips then pops back up etc. I guess that never helped.

Did you get any injuries in your crash?

More damage to the car and crash barrier (and Focus!).

Only bruised on the right shoulder, where I was forced to shoulder barge the top of the door (bouncing around off the crash barrier). And a slight bruise on the head where the drivers side wing mirror came through the window and twatted me.

Pretty shocking at the time. The car looked an absolute mess, only one wheel pointing in the right direction. But then I think plastic does not do so good with impacts!

I was very impressed with the overall strength of the car. The accident started at around 45mph up against the crash barrier at about 20 degree to the barrier, and then bounced around as the back hit the barrier and then the steering broke, etc, etc.

I can sort of smile about it now! Main thing was that no one was injured.

Guys

I cant believe it. Got the damage report today for my car.

Turns out the chassis is bent and needs replaced along with other bits n pieces. Its a borderline write off apparently. Will have to see what the insurance company says.

If its not a write off, then its 3 months till they can get a new chassis!

I cant believe...cannot believe it.

Dude, that's terrible news, I feel for you.
I went through a similar thing a couple of years ago, had my original standard S1 for a month and smashed it on a roundabout at 25-30mph. Repair bill was over 17,000. Fortunately, so was the insurance settlement (they wrote it off) so I was able to buy a spanky replacement 111S (yay!) a few months later.

Good luck getting it sorted swiftly.

Tough break, web-dude.

17K of damage. Good effort! I thought my 8.5K was good, but I can see I will have to try harder next time!

(only joking before everyone has a go!)

My last load of damage was 7k... You want the sick news. I rode just the right hand side (Drivers Side) over a low kerb in the middle of the road. The visable damage was a slight scrape at the front underneath at the front of the clam. by the wheel where the kerb caught the clam. It them poped the front tyre and seriously dented the front wheel. This damage was replicated at the back of the car as well. Anyway. I think the garage thought well just to be safe lets rebuild the whole right handside suspension. Toe links, ball joints, barings the lot! There was a small crack on the rear clam as well (nothing to do with the bump but as it was on the right hand side it got done).

The one before that was a new front. Clam, crash structure job with driving lights.. that was 3.5k.

What am i doing to my car!! WAAAAHHHHAAAAA

randy said: I have the opposite problem. I love going sideways, Im driving an exige at the moment, but getting the back unstuck is quite tricky. You have to have loads of revs on the clock to get it moving and then it tends to go really quick. I think this is a combination of loads of grip from the tyres (yokos) and too soft on the shocks at the back. I wish it had an engine with a bit of torque, it would make the car much more progressive.

I agree, now its winter, its tail out city, i love the buzz going side ways gives, especially cos its so easy in the wet, and dead easy to control, biggest slide so far has to be at a 3 figure speed joining a motorway, kinda power slided it into the slow lane, brilliant!

I have heard many differing results for the P-Zeros. I Have never had any problems with them, they are predictable and warm up nicely. They slide well in corners and I have never had a moment that I thought the car was going to be redesigned.

I run them on a 3000GT which is slightly heavier than your average car, and my personal opinion is that is why they work so well.

I am struggling to find a set of tyres to run on a light car. The AVS's are rated at 500kgs per tyre, so for the likes of these cars one and half tyres is all you need!

What size are the yoko's that are specially designed for the lotus?

AFAIK Yoko Advan Neova 'LTS' come in 195/50R15 front (might be 195/45R15) and 225/45R16 rear.

Bye, Arno.

Guys

I got the news back from the insurer this week. My Elise Mk2 has been written off! I can't believe it. The chassis needed replaced! Amazing how much damage was done at such a low impact ( around 25mph ).

My first ever crash in a car ever and I write off a Lotus!

7.5 months old too!

For what its worth my insurer is Direct Line and they have been pretty speedy with sorting it out etc.

My girlfriend part owned the car and she is not wanting another :-( so I will have to wait until I can afford one myself before I can get another.

Just out of curiosity How much insurance do you guy's pay? I started at 24 with an Elise then bought an Exige two years later and finally an M12 a year and a half later (I'm very lucky but broke at the momment) part of the reason I'm broke is becasue of the insurance - I'm lucky to have never had a major claim on insurance but I pay through the nose - ever since the elise my insurance has just gone up and up (admitedly the cars are worth more) and I always spend two to three days on the phone with different insurance companies and never seem to get anywhere...

Believe it or not, with 4 yrs no claims, no accidents, and living in Glasgow, I was paying £1400 pa! The amazing thing was, it was the lowest by a long shot compared to others. I am 29, girlfriend is 24. That was through Direct Line.

I think we pay about £1100 per year.

Then 600 for the other car, 600 for the 'Blade, 170 for the Yamaha, and 100 for the other Yamaha.

I think that's £2570 overall. Not cheap.

that is quite amazing as it goes...Im 28 and the elise part of my insurance only costs me £756 (full NCB no points). Why on earth is yours so high? Is Glasgow dreadful for insurance or are you a doctor or pilot?!

very sorry to hear about car web-dude...am astonished (and now quite worried) that you can write off an S2 at 25mph. It might be worth checking that roundabout v carefully. My elise is still on the original Potenzas and having lost the back at 70mph at Brands in an absolute downpour, it still came back into line (after major fishtail that the guy following in a 911 is unlikely to forget!). I was really pleased with how much grip it sitll got in the wet......?
