Is it possible to easily or cheaply convert an early long roof S2 Elise to the later short roof?

yes its possible, but the official kit is about a grand frown ....even 2nd hand, the roof is quite expensive, then you need the roll-hoop cover, spraying and fitting etc

so in short...no its not cheap

£2000 for the conversion with painted hardtop. Don't know if that includes fitting, the new roll bar cover needs brackets welding on. I guess it would be cheaper to sell your car and swap it for the later short roof version.

Eliseparts do a longtailed hardtop for a grand..

Is it worth it?

Is the short roof that much better?

(asks prospective owner...)

The short roof has the advantage it can be removed (and fitted, although that's a bit harder) from the driver's seat.

For me it was mainly the hard top issue, I'm looking to buy a S2 which will be my only car and used everyday.
Did lotus ever make a longtail hardtop, are they just rare and expensive? Has anyone used the eliseparts roof?
It probably works out cheaper and better value to buy a newer short roof car!
