to be honest...if those sort of problems would make you return the car...Id be worried that you'll NEVER find a sportscar you like...

If it carries on developing loads of trivial problems then it could get really irritating, but nothing you've put down so far is exactly a serious issue...little sticker come off gear knob? stick it back on then!

cheers

U should get rid of it. My advice: get yourself an SLK: no vibrations anymore, no more sticky Lotus labels coming off. The driving isn't quite the same, but you'll get used to it :-))

You could do that and also start up your own hair salon, and do make-overs for Richard & Judy!

Do men actually drive SLKs?!

and there's an irritating resonant vibration behind my head between 2000 and 2800 revs.

For those who may be interested... I took my Elise back and I'm now waiting for two weeks for a lotus engineer to look at the problems!
Why so long?
Has anyone else had to go through this?
Please help...I'm feeling ratty and rather frustrated

Convertables always leak! thats a fact I know the MGF leaks a bit .Ive know that TVRs Leak .I know someone with an MX5 and it leaks.
Owning a convertable will always have some problems in harsh weather conditions whatever u Buy.
Live with it remember your a lot faster than anything else so you should get to your destination quicker.
DONT PREASURE WASH A CONVERTABLE WHILE THE ALARMS ARE ON BECAUSE THEY GO OFF AND YOU NEVER HAVE THE KEYS HANDY WORDS OF WARNING

Not true! My Boxster never leaked a drop, even in the most horrendous storm.

I asked about the leaky roof when I went to test an Elise at the end of Feb. I was told by the dealer that sometimes they do leak a bit but there was plenty of adjustment that could be made if that was the case and neither I nor the inside of the car should actually get wet, other than water dribbling down the edge of the door when it's opened whilst wet.

All sounding very familiar to me Ted:

Resonant vibration at about 2000rpm
(Very) leaky driverside roof
Door locks jamming (very embarrassing)
Intermittant knocking sounds at about 1500rpm

All going in next week for dealer attention, wish me luck. Just little tweaks, so should be ok I hope.

Love my car though )

My Mrk 2 used to leak, but I found how to stop it. Lotus were not interested in my complaints.
If you open the door pull at the black door seal on the slope down section of the window. You will probably find it has a gap where the glue has not stuck down the rubber. Use a black rubber glue from Half****. I also found by glueing an additional thin black rubber tube under the larger seal it bulked out the rubber more making a water tight fit. It has not leaked since. I promise you it works .Adrian G

Honda S2000. I think this would be a great replacement for a Chimeara....So I did a bit of surfing and take a look at this:

www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?s=449775a0e199aeae3200543c78631ed9&threadid=51435

From an Owner :

But Brian's list is only short .... do we have enough space here .....

Boot release relay not fitted on Honda T2 alarm
Fuse holder for alarm was hanging down, because the harness had not been taped or tied
Bolt caught in roof mechanism. This was an extra from the alarm fitting, which had been dropped into roof well!
Soft top cover (recall), I prefer the original
Gearbox & clutch for 2nd gear grind
A/C failed, due to broken connection
Seatbelt retract (recall), my car had the problem on the passenger side. This was done ok, but the spare wheel rattled, as it was not been fully tightened
Bad connection in loom for Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S), I think it was the secondary
Padding fell off the boot springs and they were binding on opening
Four wheels
Leak in boot, apparantly rear vent was not sealed correctly
Replacement dashboard, due to bubble in plastic
Two headlight units due to internal condensation
Adjustments to the headlights after replacement. Dealer said there was nothing wrong, but surprise, surprise they are better since
Second visit for boot leak and to replace the plastic fixings which were missing
Another clutch (-055), which made no difference to my selection problems

At present, I still have the following faults
A-post plastic trim was damaged when the dashboard was replaced
I still have gear selection problems
There is a hesitation, particularly around 3,000 rpm in any gear. I think this started after the 27,000 mile service
The red paint on the rocker cover was scraped during the gearbox change and again when the clutch was replaced
The front under cover almost fell off after the clutch change, I've lost a couple of bolts and the rest were almost out
I'm not entirely happy on the repair to the HO2S harness, it was sealed with silicone sealant ... hardly a permenant repair!
I think the boot is still damp
There are rust stains on the boot carpet as a result of the damp. When I've got the damp sorted, I would expect this to be replaced. I'm also extremely concerned about the rust
The boot release still does not work to my satisfaction (raised about six times)
The headlight units are not as flush as the originals, I'll take the bumper off and have a tinker when I have time. I think the nearside also vibrates now.
The carpet was badly hacked on delivery, when the dealer fitted the post for the mat. I guess I've lost this one
The passenger well carpet does not fit under the outer trim panel. I haven't done anything about this
The drivers side window seal seems to hold water, as the glass is alway wet when I lower it
I've recently acquired some roof rattles, but I haven't located them yet
Condensation inside the rear light clusters
The part they didn't fit after replacing the dashboard (I would prefer not to elaborate yet)
I still need to check under the dashboard, to see if any of the loose bolts I have found are important
