I'm new to this forum so "Hello".

I was wondering if anyone has had experience of importing an Elise?
I have been shopping around on the net and phoning all over the country to find the best deal for a new S2 Sports Tourer.
The best deal I have found so far is £23,097.00 plus delivered to Dover. They claim to offer a 2 year Lotus warrenty.

Does the sound/smell fishy?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Jon Mold

PS - This is importing into UK. I know I live in London, but I'm trying to get my dream car for as little as possible.

Believe it or not I am looking to import one back into the UK . Sounds odd, made in Norfolk, shipped into Europe, import back into UK and save over £3K???

Just wondering if anyone had tested this method.

Upon further investigation...

I'm looking into importing an Elise S2
Norfolk -> Europe -> Dover ? Sounds bizarre but saves you money ~12%

The company has confirmed that they are importing a factory UK spec, RHD car back into Dover with a 2 year Lotus warrenty.

I phoned my local Lotus dealer to ask their opinion on this and they told me that the roof is a different material? and that the alarm is not a CAT 1?

I have contacted Lotus for their 2 pence worth and am waiting for a fax on spec's regards export. They did however say that if it's a UK spec car then it will be no different.

If you have any information or experience on importing a Lotus then I would be very interested to hear about it. Anything else I should be aware of???

Thanks

Jon

This has been a topic that has gotten a lot of attention on other boards. I believe you will find that the dealer/distributor in Belgium and the Netherlands are quite familiar with the process and can lead you through it. And it does save quite a bit of money.

Only downside is that Lotus trys to make it difficult by slowing down delivery of RHD cars to european dealers. But they can't shut it off completely or else run into trouble with the authorities.

Try posting to one of the other boards and I think you will get quite a bit of detailed info.
