In spite of how wonderful, reliable, leak-free and efficient the engine may be, there is absolutely nothing that would make one think 'sexy' or 'exciting' about a Toyota engine. Of course it is a superb powerplant, but unfortunately has the appeal euqivalent to a Jaguar XJ-S with a Chevy V8.
From a historical perspective, there is nothing wrong or out of the ordinary with Lotus using a Toyota 'part'. The Esprits had Supra tail lights with 'Toyota' still stamped on them.
Rumor has it that the 85 Toyota MR2 was in fact a still-born Lotus project. In fact, Elise could be the illegitimate child of the MR2.
I had an MR2 racecar with a Formula Atlantic (4AGE) engine that was in fact quicker than the Motorsports - but the similarities were more that evident.
As long as the valve cobers are red and say ........Lotus!!

I want this car to go quick and handle superbly. what difference does the badge on the engine make to this?

Obviously I want Lotus to finish the handling aspects of the car, cos they are good at it. Given that the toyota engine is powerful and reliable, what more could I ask for?

The obvious answer to that is: torque at low revs. In standard tune the vvti is utterly gutless below 5000 rpm. Although this won't affect the 'liz as badly as it would a heavier car, it's still not ideal.

Some retuning may be in order.

Which is exactly the conversation we were having earlier in the thread.

Oh well... I guess I'll just have to wait till the dealer gets their demo and try it out for real... after all thats what matters...

Regardless, its going to kick my cougars ass for fun. And the cougar is a fun car. (had the front disks glowing orange in it the other day)

--and the rover k series does?

a sport 190 elise has 139 lb/ft of torque @ 7000 rpm
and 135 @ 5500, and 100 @ 3500.
car weighs 756 kilos with a half a tank of fuel
and goes naught to 60 mph in just over 4 seconds

My question is what is the torque curve for the vvi(sorry for not reading all the posts)? Is it comparable?

Cheers
