From my recent experiences. Best mod is a fan override switch. Even when sitting in a jam at 37 deg Celsius yesterday, the car behaved very well. (Have the same mod in a Wdge and that works a treat.)
To be honest I never experienced serious thermal issues in a SpeedSix and have had a few experiences. If the system is sound there should be no problem. If not it has to be issued like in any other car. Only once a Tuscan overheated, but that was the well known connector corrosion at the radiators...there can be several other reasons, worst might be cylinder head gasket. The others are minor.
Regards,
Björn.

Thanks for the info, Björn. Always good to hear, that things actually can work how they are supposed to do. wink I was slightly worried with this kind of temperatures we're experiencing right now.

Thats btw the one mod i had in mind, too. But first things first. Got to get the motor before that. Flying to London this tuesday. I noticed, that the one i'm set on already has the cooling-fins/flaps installed. IIRC it already has an aluminium radiator fitted and maybe even the uprated fans, too. Fingers crossed.

Where's the best place to fit the wiring for the switch and also the switch itself?

I also had many problems with cooling on my T350 with powers 4.3 engine.
The spal vents type 12 V 305diam VA10-AP50 / C61A spal vents, 82degrees thermostat, without flaps on the side of the radiator, act silicon hoses, and air vents under the license plate.
water temp is always around 90 degrees and oil about 78 to 85 degrees. previously it was 10 to 15 degrees higher.

With ECU diagnostic software
- - - And that's kinda true. Ultimately the temperature sensor, both the one for the ECU and the one outputting to the dash are just a resistance that changes with heat. I'd imagine both sensors are calibrated at manufacture, but I guess they just have to be within a few degree over the indicated range?
So, the software merely indicates the temperature sent to the ECU from its dedicated sensor....and this sensor may be slightly inaccurate too.

I've not long returned from SW France where ambients were up in the high twenties. I lost the dash temp indication on the drive down. I checked the oil temperature reading regularly and if the radiator fans were kicking in and out I was happy.

Next job - change sensor between cylinders 1 & 2!!

Ceramic coating the manifolds and CATs help relocate some temp out of the engine bay.
