A copy and paste on here from the Al Melling facebook page suggests that the missing big end oil grooves and relative lack of big end cap thickness is a major mistake.

However, these conrods must have been used on some / many of the Racing Green FFF full engine rebuilds ..

so the question is : is anyone running the TVR Parts conrods and if so have you had any issues / would you wholeheartedly recommend them ?

  • oil grooves could always be machined into the rods afterwards anyway I guess .. ? but big end cap thickness is rather harder to rectify of course!

Ummhh,

I have tried to break them, didn't like them much when I put them in either....

They are from overseas, better than stock? Defo reckon so, good for my latest project, nah.

Think i may post some pics up soon....

What are you building Jon. Forced induction?

Are you using high revs .. it's shutting the throttle at high revs that usually breaks rods on the end of a long race straight for example .. rods don't normally break due to forced induction if the revs aren't any higher than normal.

I want to build a high rev 4 litre - the sp6 has a peaky power delivery so to maximise the use of the power you really need to be able to rev it high to drop into a useful power band in the next gear.

Ummhhh, don't want to say toooooooo much but yes, high engine speeds

I have removed as much inertia as I can, more details to follow as I build it.
I have machined two blocks and made new caps that register etc., think I will not say any more.... one is being built to 4.5 the other 4.0 both will rev.
I am altering the inlets and the throttle linkage, again wait for the pics.
I am trying to understand the cam profiles as I want a longer duration, this is the expensive bit as the maths only gets you so close...
The exhaust, yep you guessed it.
I am getting vibration analysis done, yep I know.
The chain arrangement wont look the same, that's about all I can say about that...
There are various bespoke internals that I have tested on my other sixes.
The clutch is my MKV, don't ask why.

This has been 4 years work and has been mothballed for a year because my daughter bought a house and said "Dadddddddd you're a builder... and smiled like daughters do.

I know who is going to map it.....

This will be my last pair of Speed sixes, after this I may have to sell my body to raise the funds to build another one, this will take f'ing years with my body.

If my wife finds out I will be cursed royally, if a red Griff owner from Wiltshire mutters a word he will be visited by the management....

For what it’s worth. I used the Racing Green/TVR parts rods.

I took the whole reciprocating/rotating mass to Julian Godfrey motor sport for balancing. They said the rods were reasonably well balanced out of the box.. and within in 1/2 gram of each other.

That was good enough for me.

My engine is full FFF and ~450bhp. Redlines when you want it to. Standard bottom end. Gets tracked and regularly exercised. I assume it has those in it.
