Water Pump Assembly

Hello everybody,
is there annyboday out there who ever had assemled a new water pump for the speed six ? I have done this and found out, that after fitting in the mechanical seal, it just rotates rather stiff. For my opinion this should be usualy, as the slide rings are getting compressed by the press-in operation, but I'm not 100 % sure about this and I don't want to find out that I was wrong whwn the engine is back in.
So is ther anybody who can tell me about this ?

Yep the mechanical seal does drag, but it could be too much preload on the bearings. The assembly procedure on these does take some thinking about and as the casting is weak any error will usually mean a new casting, think I have posted or replied on this topic before but can't find it. Careful warming and chilling to get the bearings, on and in, without too much preload etc.
