Post here if you've -not- had a rebuild!

Sounds like a Sterling Idea provided of course that they cover everything. I'd certainly get the opinion of SXS (Ash) and other peeps in the forum, many ppl have great insight to what could be a very costly problem. You hear so many myths and contradictions about the SP6 engine it is quite refreshing to hear the truth (which has recently come out) As you have an early motor I'd definately get it looked at before hand. Maybe at your next service. IMHO the Full TVRSH doesnt hold a great deal of weight anymore. There are so many great indies about too.

Falls on the floor laughing.
Truth come out? No, it hasnt!
No, Im not about to go defending TVR against Mr. Melling, but the Al Melling original design Super-Engine myth aint quite the truth either! Id say 1/2 the tale is not *relatively* out in the public domain but the other 1/2 is very much kept shtum about. I happily admit I dont know the full story, but Ive cobbled together about 3/4s of it now Ive decided to ask a few folk. Whilst I was an RV8 owner, I didnt really care much, now Im an Sp6 owner, thought Id better have a look see.
The engine really should be good for about 50k miles, but personally speaking I expect to get 30k miles out of it. Im being pessimistic, but only because I know TVR, if they have done what I think/hope has been done, then the 50k miles should happen. I wont hold my breathe too much though, but when it does go bang, then I know exactly who to go to and what to have done to have it a 50k miles (between rebuilds) engine.

Which bit of the truth came out recently?
The bit about Mr Melling's original design lasting for only 15 minutes on testing or the bit about TVR offering a full 3 year warranty on their engines.
Fellas,
When I mentioned the truth coming out I metioned nothing about Al Melling. Maybe I should have been a little more clear (I have posted before regarding my engine being rebuilt so maybe I should have been more specific as opposed to assuming that everyone would know).
I recently had my engine rebuilt by the chaps at speed 6 engine tech, and the details they gave me (for which I was loosly referring to the truth) as I and they see it and what the inherent problems of the engine were. The guys at engine tech are ex-factory so I tend to take their word a little more seriously. I dont want to mention anything on a public forum for fear of any reprisal or litigation but feel free to mail me as to what the problems were with my engine and why they happened.
I'm sure you have been about a while so probably know most of the issues.
As for falling on the floor laughing I personally see this as no laughing matter. I bought into TVR with my eyes open. I love the cars. My engine was a little bit suspect, I was lucky to have a fund put aside. But warranty or no warranty many owners have been shafted on this matter be it by engines going pop or ppl making a profit from a rebuild. A warranty IMHO is a good idea, if it covers the cost of a rebuild and there is no wear and tear loophole.
Just my 80p worth.
Cheers.
