Sorry we're not all driving Gods !!

Could've been worse though!

A friend of a friend just picked up his P&J (Ferrari 355) from a £3k service only to spin while overtaking some 100yds from the garage!

He actually hit the car he was overtaking, then a wall, then the car again, then the wall again

Not a straight panel left on it.

And I thought I was gutted!

Yowch! That's awful. You know I don't mean that, bud - sorry. The post-wine wit just wasn't so sparkling... Was meant to be a sarcastic "there's nothing nothing else you could've done" kind of way; pushing it far too hard or driving well within the reasonable limits, all it takes is one dodgy bit of tarmac.

Did I hear mention of the old girl being back on the road in the very near future - you must be having dreams of being able to play out it in again? Here's hoping all the sitting around's not done the seals, etc. any damage (on the car, either )

James

You know that I know you were being sarcastic mate

You heard right - we're looking at the end of this week

Paul is going to run it around for a day or so just to check for any problems that may have been caused by the weeks (and months ) of inactivity.

You're right about that feeling too

It was the clutch that gave up on me after it'd been sat around for so long from the rebuild... that was probably due to go anyway, as 22,000 or so seems a typical lifespan for the slave cylinder seals - hopefully you won't have to suffer that!

Trying to think of anything else that comes to mind to watch out for... possibly nothing other than the obligatory "careful now the roads are getting a bit slippier".

You are preaching to the converted mate

The main problem I will have is to remove the stigma that the car is a death-trap, and anyone who ever had a ride in it is lucky to be alive

SWMBO (Sarah) has already told me that Nathan cannot go in it again as she doesn't trust it!

...like I haven't learnt my lesson....mutter, mutter, mutter....

TRACK DAY!

Would really recommend that or similar - get it on a skid pan or something where you can get used to losing it and where that breaking point is, rather than hoping you never reach it again.

Tough one with the Mrs, though - hard thing to instill confidence in someone else.

As for de catting an s6. I had an S spec engine fitted by the guys in Speed 6 Engine Tech, and enquired about decatting, as one had totally knacked. I was advised that decatting would actually lower the BHP. As far as I'm aware, the only reason that the factory quote these figures and are able to is because of the amount of time and cost that is put in. Jason worked at the factory and helped in the build of the le mans motor, and advised that there are cars out there with the correct BHP, but these were maticulously built and it would cost 10's of thousands to have something of the same build quality.
I'm planning on taking her to a RR as soon as I've got a good few thou on the clock but as for pulling, it leaves my 5ltr chimaera standing, and its a very quick chim.
Main thing is, enjoy while you can and only time will tell if these new rebuilds are what they are cracked up to be.

I would question that....mine's had a de-cat (with ECU modified to suit) and that's anything but down on power.

I'll second that. Mine was actually up 8 bhp from the quoted figures, and 18 more that a tamora on the same rollers. I did have the TVR decatt chip however, which has a different fuel map and timing map to the std 3.6 chip to account for the loss of back pressure from removing the catts...

Unbelievable the air fuel reading on alot of the SP6 engine that have been on SRR running way to lean when in high rev range! Luckily Whitey's although a bit down on what he was expecting - (SRR seems to read low or right depending on your stance!) - but air / fule spot on all through rev range so - nice and save and pretty strong.

Spot on. What I'd expect you to find is a de-cat lowering torque a little in the mid-range but giving you a slightly higher peak BHP. Mine (now nelly's) Tuscan had both the de-cat and ECU to match done at TVR Power; the boys there didn't think it'd drop the power one bit. Think the RR printout proves that.

Yeah, cheers for that. Nothing makes you feel big like dissing another man's car, especially one you've never driven.

Personally, I love it - 10,000 miles on and bills are currently standing at under £600 including a big 50k service. Oh, and it's not all that barge like, either - suggest you read the review: www.thetruthaboutcars.com/content/110808069607668866/

Means there's been whole lot of saving going on in that (once) little Aston fund of mine, too. The thought of keeping the Cat and adding a supercharged Tam/T350 to the stable is really starting to make me ponder, though...

Come off it!!!

I know how quick that fund burns a hole in your pocket...usually about 24 hours isn't it?

It really, really did go in the fund. Temporarily. Only the fund was for a 3.2 DB7 at the time, which I was going to throw £10k+ of money BBR's way to upgrade for me. At which point I thought saving for a Vantage was MUCH more sensible, but still REALLY wanted an Aston. Period. And that ad for the only spec of XK I'd ever consider appeared like a shining light on Autotrader that very day. And I had a 12-18 month respite from buying into another money pit.

Only now the TSO-GT2's got me thinking. As has talk of 500BHP s/charged Tams/T350s to run alongside the XK. Or a lone supercharged Sag. And if Noble ever pull their finger out on the M14. Then there's the 550 Maranellos that are starting to look almost "sensible". Or... or... or...

Oh geeze, I'd better wait till I've got rid of the other three cars first. Nothing doing till that Explorer's parked up in The Gambia...

Astons - fat barges most - look good but when you find out how much they weight you realise that will never be Properly quick or chuckable.

Now the TSO is another thing altogether - Do it. (the engine rocks to - I know!)

Anyway back to Whiteys issues - when is someone else with a Tusc RR or Tusc S or even a Saggonna hit SRR?
