The more I drive my Tuscan the more I love this engine! As well as the obvious incredible and unrelenting acceleration, the noise is just something else. At 6000 rpm and above it's like listening to a symphony orchestra, a loud and angry symphony orchestra I grant you but its music nonetheless. The thing has real character.

I've driven a V8 Vantage, a S6 Aston, several AJP8 engined Cerbies and I've owned two XK engined E-Types and an Edward Turner engined V8 Daimler, all great engines, but nothing moves me like the Speed 6. It's awesome. I guess that's why when I sold my Tuscan I had no option but to get another one. (Except maybe a Sag or a T350 or a Tamora. :))

Putting aside opinions on reliability does anyone who has lived with the engine agree with me?

I like it's instant throttle response and race-car styling.

Unrep, I have to agree, the Speed 6 is an engine not to be frowned upon... it sure is at the top of the pile in terms of technical merit, performance and individuality...

But I still prefer my AJPV8... that little more... ok, slightly biased I know... but hey

Unrep, I am so with you on your opinion. Although I have just got mine back from a rebuild it just sings. It did before but is so much smoother now. I used to drive ///M BMW's for 7 years and I loved the peaky engines on them but the Tuscan sound track and power surge is sensational It just builds and builds. Stunning.... I also love the instant throttle response (Providing you have the updated throttle cable ) Top Top engine Top car.

I agree whole heartedly. My Cerb has a sports exhaust but has retained its cats. My brother who has ridden in it and followed it many times says it sounds like Roy Castle is hiding in the boot!! The neighbours hate it. The house over the road, which is for sale, have asked me not to start it when they have people around as it puts off potential buyers!! A cracking car with a cracking engine!!!

The sound of the S6? It's OK, it's very revvy and I love the throttle response...but the sound? Still don't think it compares to a V8 at on full chat or as good as Shady's DB9 I followed up to BT&P last year. But there again the engine out of a DB9 is probably worth about as much as my Tuscan.

Yeah it's OK but nothing to write home about, infact if I'd have brought a car of engine sound alone I would have stuck with my Chim.

That's an interesting comment Al. I must admit the V8's do have a wonderful sound; real deep throb. The Tuscan is a little more of a peaky roar as opposed to V8 Rumble but remove the CATS and put on some nice cans and the rasp is just unforgettable, overrun is pretty nice too especially in 3rd pop, pop, bang, bang. Some people say it can be too loud without the CATS, I'm just deaf Each TVR engine has its own nice noise. I just especially like the sp6

This is going to sound silly but my new one is a lot louder, particularly at high revs than my old one was. have they changed something to make it so?

It's not just the sound, it's the whole package.

Totally agree, it`s not until you have had the pleasure of driving a S6 that you appreciate what you have got, it`s a crying shame that more people don`t take the plunge, what else can you buy that gives you more for less than £20K?
Whoops sounds like sales pitch

Depends on your exhaust. My Tamora sounds like a V8, ask Dom or James Aggers. Awesome

What exhaust do you put on a S6 to make it sound like a V8

I'm not disagreeing that my Tuscan is Fecking awesome.

It's a dream car that I am fortunate enough to own and drive, but the sound?.... the sound well .....

I've heard better..

Yeah, mine pops and bangs UP and DOWN, but it's not the best sounding engine overall..... IMHO. If we’re talking only SOUND!

Please refer to my original post. We're not talking about perceived reliability, we're talking about hedonistic delight. (I've had 2 - no probs whatsoever).

And your contribution from having lived with a S6 engined car is...................

People like you have been telling me that for almost 2 years, and in the meantime, I've put 15K miles on the Tam, as far as I'm concerned, if it goes 'pop' ((rollseyes)), then the fun I've had whilst driving it has been more than worth the rebuild price, as the way it makes me feel whilst driving it is priceless.

Absolutely. I've been on here for nearly 3 years and all the while the doomsayers have been saying don't touch a S6, it won't last. Meantime I've had 33 months of fantastic fun in 2 TVR's and never regretted it for a minute.

It must be really sad to want something very badly and lack the nous to just go and get it. Still, they can always be compensated in the knowledge that they can come on here and bitch about how bad the cars they don't own are. Meanwhile we can all be
