At my car's first service I had the dealer fit a set of Speed Six specific Magnecor leads (red ones if that means some kind of spec level). A few months ago I started getting a misfire under load when hot. Dealer diagnosed the coil pack and changed it. Temporarily solved problem. Came back. I had kept the original HT leads and swapped them back onto the car. Problem solved.

I'd rather not have this problem again if it can be helped (just over 4 years, 17,000 miles BTW). Various services and 2 engine removals (same head gasket fault each time) - so lots of opportunity to pull and tug on the leads I guess. I want to get a new set of leads to replace the originals which are currently back on the car. Are there any other options except TVR own and Magnecor?

I use 8mm red magnecore leads on my engine and not had a problem yet. I would get your leads tested as it sounds like one or more is breaking down. I would expect any of the good engine diagnostic places would be able to pin point the culprit as its not exactly rocket science. Dont rule out the plugs, even new ones, I had 2 duff NGK plugs that went faulty after I had changed the ECU. Car was starting ok and left over night it would not start next morning. Tried all sorts & I was convinced I had goosed the ECU for a while. Eventually changed the plugs for the old ones and car started.

I fitted the blue 8mm magnecore leads on my engine as well as a new coil pack when I did my own service about 2500 miles ago.I have not had any problems either yet.
It’s important that the leads are correctly routed around the rear of the engine. (Something to do with interference with crank sensor)
I would suggest it's either the coil pack breaking down or water is getting under spark plug cover remove, clean and reseal.

Just to be clear - changing the leads solved my car's problem, I thought it may have been a plug as the problem came up soon after a service. However, I changed the leads first since I had a spare set. The original factory leads have been on now for a while and tested in hot conditions with no problems apart from the usual pinking above 6,500rpm on normal fuel (another topic I know).

I can't be arsed to test the leads - if one has gone dodgy then the rest may follow as they're all the same age/wear.

The routing of my leads was the same with both sets.

Where can you get leads and coil packs from?

I fitted a new set of plug leads (from Race Tech) but they sit higher on the plus than the old leads. I can't push them down far enough to get the seal onto the cam cover or even for the plug cover to fit.

The metal clamp inside is further down towards the open end of the plug connector than the previous. Is it possible to pull the HT lead back through the connector?
