I looked at this a while back and the research was non conclusive.

What killed it for me was being told by a reputed speed 6 engine rebuilder that he drove a speed 6 head by electric motor with the head totally immersed in oil and it still failed !!

I think as with any engine there is an issue at start up with dry cams and this will help. But if the finger followers and cams are made of the right quality steel they should be OK. Even with the extra oil you will still come across the valve guide wear problems which then loads the followers and is the root cause of most problems!

The system permanently pumps oil onto the cam/follower

I have just fitted this cover, it is very strightforward to fit, a bit time consuming but no real problem, it came with very good instructions and Jonathan and Russell are very helpfull. The cam cover has a spray bar buit in and works from the main oil system when the engine is running. The system pressurises the engine before sart up at about 17 psi. I realy don't know if this will prolong the life of the engine, cam and followers in mine looked like new when we took the old cover off with plenty of oil around and the engine has done 23000 miles with no rebuild. Its a late 02 3.6. It is nice to know I am not starting a "dry" engine though.

Had my Raceproved camcover and oil spray bar for one year now. Nothing to report really. Everything fine, belt and braces job for me. It does give me some reassurance and peace of mind.

Hi,
Has anyone still got a Raceproved cam cover fitted to their Speed Six engine?

I just want to know how they stood up to the test of time with regards to being a Nylon material in the hot engine bay?
Did any leaks result long term?

Have been offered one without the pre-oiler kit and would fit the cover for aesthetic reasons only and for easier spark plug access but don't want to introduce oil leaks that don't exist at present.

Look forward to any replies.

Many thanks.

Best regards,

Steve

Yes, I've had the RaceProved pre-oiler fitted since 2010, no issues to report, still on and still works

Hi Pursyluv,
Thanks for the reply.

I was concerned about oil leaks some other threads have mentioned.

That's a good time span and test for the cam cover that gives me confidence to fit one as they look fantastic. Out of interest how many miles would that roughly translate to in car usage terms?

The ease of accessing the spark plugs is also appealing.

Best regards,

Steve

Fitted in 2010 at approx 21k miles
Brendan at Concept Performance does all my work so he would be best to speak to regarding leaks, but from what he’s told me and from what I’ve seen it leaks very little
There’s quite a bit of negativity about the RaceProved pre-oiler, but I think that stems from a £1,200 price tag
