Smartcamdirect on eBay? I had a problem with the suction mount lever on mine and Scott sent me out a replacement bracket immediately. From memory he replied almost immediately too.

He was a little suspicious as he hadnt had one fail before, but I think that my replacement was in the post long before Id emailed him a picture of the broken fitting (sent for my own piece of mind, not requested).

Im considering removing the adjustable head from my SD dashcam and extending the ribbon cable. This will allow me to mount the body and display out of site, with a small Oxo cube sized lens head to mount behind the mirror.
Nice idea if you can make it work. I presume a steady hand and some soldering skills will be required!!
It depends what you find when you open it up, but yes, it may be way beyond my ability.

I think the Ph PM system is playing up.

Scott at smartcam . Com
Thanks. I was using scott@smartcamdirect.com (which I think was what was on the business card that came with it)

This is the one I have bought, slightly different to in the vid. Black case and the rear camera looks a bit better.

Keep us updated - my only worries are the usual "electronics coming from HK", and also the fact that it is nearly half the price of the other one... The techmoan review says look for "h.264" format, but yours just says "avi". confused
Well i ordered this one a few weeks ago, looks nice and discrete in the car.

The video quality is ok, not brilliant as not that easy to read numberplates, also fo some reason the images on the rear camera are mirored so it looks as though i am driving on the wrong side of the road.

The file on the front cam is a .mov and is 1280*720 @ 29 frames/seconds

Still haven't received mine but it's in the UK!

Here's a review on another cam. I haven't watched the vid yet but always a good review by Mr Techmoan. smile

Shipping from China/HK is extremely slow at the moment - expect 4+ weeks.

Can these dash cams be fitted and forgotten about?
i.e - do they start recording as soon as you turn on the ignition, and stop when you switch off the ignition?

Yes.

Fit and forget if its being on display doesnt concern you. Of course, a £30-£40 camera shouldnt attract anyone, but the unwashed types who steal from cars are likely to over estimate its worth.

To change language you need to make sure you are not recording then, press the menu button three times to get to the Settings menu Press the Mic(down) button seven times to get to the language menu. Press the Emergency lock button to enter the Language Menu.
Use the Mic button to find English, press the emergency lock to select.

I ordered an amplifier from HK which arrived in about week - last week. Normal cheapo mail service.

Yes most will start recording and stop recording based on whether there is power.

Presumably the camera's linked in the previous page are out of stock or are having shipping duties as delivery is £112 currently.

Thats an HD camera, isnt it? I was presuming that this was a VGA resolution model.

Does the HD camera work well with a Class10 card?

How are you getting on with it, is your rear camera like a mirror image like mine?
