I don't see the benefit in hopping in and out of lane 2 if you're not impeding the progress of anyone behind you and you can see that you'll be passing another car in lane 2 before anyone catches up with you. Changing lanes is inherently risky, particularly when it's dark and wet and you may miss a vehicle in lane 1 moving into lane 2. Checking blind spots means that you're briefly taking you're eyes away from the road ahead. I'm all for keeping left, but in this instance it made more sense to remain in the outside lane.
It doesn't matter what you think, the Highway Code states that you keep left unless overtaking.If you think changing lanes is risky you may well benefit from further training or going on an advanced course to help with confidence.

There's no excusing the Golf driver but there was opportunity for the chap with the dash cam to pull back left but yet he stayed in the right lane despite not overtaking anything, a bit of lane hogging going on.
If you are a member of the IAM then perhaps it may be a good idea to review the footage with fellow group members, and I say this in all seriousness as I really am interested in their views.

If you define overtaking as being next to a vehicle and moving past it, it's impossible to move to the lane and be overtaking at the same time, unless you define overtaking as intent.
If it is intent, then it doesn't matter if you move into the lane early, so long as you are doing so with the intention of making the maneuver to pass a vehicle ahead of you.

You may or may not agree with those opinions but I don't care as it seems to me your observation of the video are just as lacking as your reading of the thread. On your bike.

Bearing in mind which thread this is in (we are discussing cameras, not overtaking and/or lane hogging) it is important to point out that the camera is looking ahead, and cannot see left or left/rear to check if it's actually safe to move left to lane 2. There may well be other traffic there or about to move there from lane 1, so it would be sensible to stay in lane 3.
Even without the Golf's antics, looking at clip point 6 to 15 seconds you wouldn't want to move left because there is other traffic joining from the slip, and the car in lane 1 may move to lane 2, so it's sensible to stay in lane 3. For almost the whole of the rest of the clip there is another car either ahead in lane 3 or just ahead/left in lane 2.
Back to cameras for a minute and my 0801 stopped working on Monday morning; I put it down to being minus 2 overnight, the coldest night of the year autumn so far.
It started ok when the ignition turned on but froze after 2 seconds, and stayed frozen, with the screen on, for half an hour, even after I'd disconnected the power. When this happens with my phone I take the battery out, but you can't do that with the 0801. Eventually after I'd held the power button in for several seconds a few times it powered down, I then brought it inside the house, connected up to a computer and it seemed to correct itself; I put it back in the car and it's fine.
Anyone else had this problem with the Mini 0801?

I've had similar with an 0803, I put it down to starting the car at the same time as powering up the camera, causing a blip in the power to it. I've made sure to always either let the camera get past the splash screen, then crank the car over, or crank the car first before switching on the camera, ever since, and it's behaved itself fine.

The sooner we allow overtaking on both sides, the better. I sat on the M4 the other day from Bristol to London and was making much better progress in lanes 1 and 2 than everyone in lane 3. The number of people who think that they have a right to sit in lane 2 because lane 1 is for lorries is ridiculous and just causes everyone to pile into lane 3 to overtake, jamming it up and causing it to move slower than lane 1. If I have room to undertake safely, you should have been in that lane is my view. Unfortunately I suspect that undertaking safely is more of a crime than sitting mindlessly in lane 2 or 3 for mile upon mile.
