Do you have it hardwired in with the Nextbase hardwire cable? Or have you literally connected a fuse adapter to a live fuse, popped in a spare cigarette plug behind your dash, and clipped in the cigarette lighter power dc cable into this and into the camera?

There is no automatic low voltage cut off integrated into the Nextbase units. If you re read it, there will be a line which states this is only applicable if you use their Nextbase hardwire kit, which has a low voltage cut off at 11.8V, which in real life is far to low, so a flat battery is evident.

I don't know the NextBase cameras but my guess is that the sensitivity of the G-Force is turned up high? Usually a format should ignore protected status and clear everything.
Hello ninjag,
Many thanks - I hope it's now fixed; the G Sensor was "Medium" so I've set it to "Low". Format in the camera itself seems to work (a format attempt earlier on the computer refused to do it!).
Just to follow this up, I've found the Nextbase 412 is still sensitive to protecting many of the clips (presumably the G-sensor) even when set to "Low" so I've turned it "off".

The newer 412 claims to accept 128GB cards, but ours says max 32GB, so when half the stuff is protected we were getting only about the latest 2 hours of driving recorded.

Just thought I’d post this up if of interest, I’ve got the Aukey dual system for £120 off Amazon including hardwire kit

It has no battery so only useful when ignition is on so no parking mode, but it’s very good build and recording quality.

Got one in each of my cars and recommend it.

Quick question, does it impact DAB in either car if you have it?

It kills it in an old car of mine with an after market radio with DAB aerial on the windscreen.

I took it out & put it in the daily where the DAB is OEM. Very annoying.

Cheers

No idea sorry I stopped listening to the radio in the buildup to the Brexit referendum and never looked back!

It does have a parking mode, if you install it with a hardwire voltage sensing kit you can set it up I have one for mine, just not got around to it yet, nor the rear camera, I'll get to it eventually.

I just want something to catch the c**ts that keep knocking my car. Although worry this could turn in to an all consuming manhunt. I've literally had 2 the front bumper knocked off 2 Jag X300s (although one was in a friend's car park) and now a scuff on my XF. Is there any recourse for a dent?

I might have my mechanic wire a micro USB from the interior light fuse to behind the mirror so I can upgrade the camera at a later date. I'll have to avoid the ones where you have to wire in a separate rear view camera though.

Looking to put in some cheap dashcams after being screwed over by a lying delivery driver, I'm tempted by the 70mai mini dashcam, for the Wi-Fi and I don't really want a screen, but will the 130 degree camera be a problem?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PDDYTV7/ref=cm_sw_r...

Or will I be better going for a wider field of vision with an Aukey DR02?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0711K92J1/ref=cm_sw_r...

Thanks for any advice!

You really don't need a mechanic for this I've done it now on my last 5 cars, it's a piece of piss, just get a piggy-back fuse holder, then pass the wire up from the fusebox through the A pillar and use a plastic trim kit to tuck it in along the headlining. Easy peasey

I hope they know what they are doing because micro USB is 5v and your interior light will be 12v, so you will still need a 12v - 5v converter tucked away somewhere.

I have one of the original Chinese 70mai units - voice commands don't work because I'm not Chinese (and none of my cunning attempts to fool it have been a success) but as a basic camera it works well. The WiFi is really handy for pulling footage down as soon as you want it rather than having to remove the card, put it in an adapter for your phone or wait until you're home. Picture quality is acceptable.

That said on the car that does the most miles I have the Aukey DR02 (D) and the image quality is far superior to the 70mai, the reassurance of having the back covered is also a big bonus IMO and would have probably saved us from a pretty crap crash for cash scam last year.

Both are better than nothing, the DR02 would be my choice if the budget covers this.

Can anyone recommend a 4-camera setup please?
It doesn’t have to have a screen built in.

I’ve seen a couple of similar recorders on eBay, bundled with 4 cameras. But I’m not sure the quality is there.

This is for a driving school car, so would like to record front and rear, as well as sideways shots from each A pillar to capture pupil and instructor behaviour, as well as any side-on approaches by other vehicles.

Could put a screen mounted to the underside of the parcel shelf to review footage with the pupil at the end of the lesson.

1080p would also be nice, but the recorders I’ve seen only do 720P.

I had a incident at the weekend that neither the front or rear cameras on the car could capture and this has irritated me.

Are there any wide angle cameras out there designed to cover the sides of a vehicle?

My incident, someone opened a door into my reversing car:

At this rate I'm going to end up buying a Google Street View rig to cover all possible angles laugh

No audio? That would have contributed to some evidence.

I’m no expert. Never had a cam, but I’ll be getting one. Having had someone scratch/key my drivers door, a greater all round view concerns me too. All I know is, there are some dual camera set-ups that locate the rearview cam directly on the back of the forward facing cam, so you get a better all round view at the expense of better rear view. You’d still have blind spots round about the a-pillar. With a typical 140/140 field of view it’s going to add up to 40 degree blindspots each side.

Maybe you could relocate the rear view cam close to the back of your forward cam?

I don't know if 3 cam set-ups exist? All located by the forward facing cam, you'd have 360 degree.

The original has audio, me and my family chatting and then the thud and reaction, I removed it for the purposes of being trolled on PH.
