Some frustrating dashcam foibles.
Friend's daughter bought him a Nextbase 322 for Christmas. Didn't come with a memory card so bought a 128gb Samsung Evo card. This meets or exceeds all of the requirements specified in the manual. Put the card in the camera and it says words to the effect that it's not a Class 10 card. The card is a Class 10, it clearly gives details of spec on its packaging.
Contact Nextbase and they say "buy a Nextbase card". Their own cards are significantly more expensive than the market alternatives and, for two cameras recording at high quality you have to buy a large capacity card. Have they put something in the code/SD card to make their cameras only function on their own cards?
We're beginning to suspect Nextbase business model may be in rinsing the profit out of memory cards........
I've read something about this in the past - it's to do with the type of memory on the card, either MLC or TLC. From what I recall MLC type cards are best suited to dash cams.Friend's daughter bought him a Nextbase 322 for Christmas. Didn't come with a memory card so bought a 128gb Samsung Evo card. The Blackvue cards are a bit of an unknown recipe, some say it's a hybrid of MLC & TLC but Blackvue will never confirm, even not to distributors & installers like us.
Manufacturers will always try and corner the market and try and get you to buy their SD cards. They are tested for their units and they can give a 12 month warranty on the unit knowing no 'cheap fake' SD card inserted will destroy the NAND processor.

I just upgraded my A119 for a A219 Duo moving the A119 to the MIL car (only a matter of time).
Assume that's a typo for A129?Been contemplating the same move (A119 to A129) - pleased with it?
I've given up on expensive cameras and just ordered a https://www.vava.com/products/2k-front-and-1080p-c... for the front windscreen and a https://www.apemans.com/product/23/101 for the rear as the jag has a lighter socket in the boot (and most come with ungodly thick front to rear cables when you get dual cams).

My A129 pro decided to go to sleep when it was 35 degrees the other day. I suspect 4K in high temps is just too much for the cooling solution in place. That’s sat behind a “climate comfort” windscreen too.
Hmm... had been looking at these, but having second thoughts now - that's the second comment about them dying in the heat. Are you on the latest firmware?

It's going to be really hot on Friday so I might switch it to timelapse mode and see how it gets on.

Can someone with the A129 Duo Pro let me know if the rear camera can be mounted on the front windscreen (facing backwards)?
I'm looking for a dashcam solution for my convertible and would ideally like front+rear if possible. Thx
You'd need a different cable if you wanted to do that. Its the old skool mini USB cable (assuming its standard pinout).I'm looking for a dashcam solution for my convertible and would ideally like front+rear if possible. Thx

It’s about 8m in length...
Gotcha. I’ll just cut it down and re-solder back together and tidy up with some heatshrink. Cabling doesn’t concern me too much, that’s easily bodged Can the actual rear camera be positioned such that it can be mounted on the front windscreen and have a good view to the rear? I can see the lens rotation can be adjustable but I cannot tell by how much.

Yes. In 4K mode it runs hot even in a nicely ventilated car. I suspect they're pushing the envelope a bit and I am running it in buffered parking mode sat in the sun which is pretty much a recipe for overheating. I suspect timelapse mode would result in far less heat as it's doing a fraction of the encoding work.
It's going to be really hot on Friday so I might switch it to timelapse mode and see how it gets on.
Interested to know how you get on.... It's going to be really hot on Friday so I might switch it to timelapse mode and see how it gets on.

Nextbase make two different rear-view cameras, the one stuck on the rear window has a much wider angle; whereas the one designed to fit at the front has a narrower angle, because otherwise you get a picture of the passengers, and tiny cars through the rear window.Brother D said:

Today driving out of the garage (aircon'd) it got stuck in a boot-loop and after troubleshooting with Street Guardian using different cards etc (must admit support is actually pretty good). It now looks like I'm returning the 4th dashcam in just a couple of months.
Does anyone have any ideas? This is absurd - surely it has to be something to do with my car or the power socket? I'm at a loss on what to try next. The rear cheapo $50 camera is fine and plodding along.

I swear this is not a pi55-take. So I purchased a Street Guardian SG9665GC v3 Edition for $120 on Amazon as it was recommended by the dashcam talk forum to replace the useless VAVA.

Are you using the power socket, or have you hard wired the dash cam?Today driving out of the garage (aircon'd) it got stuck in a boot-loop and after troubleshooting with Street Guardian using different cards etc (must admit support is actually pretty good). I have had loads of problems with my dash cams
I’ve got £110 Ailey ones so hardly cheapo although not top of the range Nexbase either. Had some cheapo OldShark ones before
Loads of problems. Think they’re just new products built by unknown brands not subject to the same sort of testing and QC as the large manufacturers.
I wouldn’t buy an expensive one, think you just buy one and hope to get 2 years out of it.

I've had my BlackVue 750 for four years now - 1 year in the TT & 3 in the A5, and it's been faultless - I think it's more than paid for itself by that measure.I’ve got £110 Ailey ones so hardly cheapo although not top of the range Nexbase either. Had some cheapo OldShark ones before

Ref the above 3 or 4 posts, yes they are a bit of a lottery, but if you buy wisely you can get a good result.
Unknown technology, yes, small manufacturers, yes.
I buy on Amazon / Ebay but I'm careful which seller I use, to try to avoid fakes.
My Mini 0801's have done well. Basic, and the battery eventually gives up (about 3 to 4 years) but they are amazing for the price. Last week I downloaded a motorway clip and played it back via a USB stick in the back of a 40" TV, and the quality was good.
We are running Nextbase (2) and an Aukey as well, with mixed results. I find the SD (/TF) card gets stuck in the Nextbase's slot.
But overall I like the idea of having cameras in the cars.
It's well worth £100 a year to me.
