Interesting. I have 3 TK102s from Rewire, all with "lifetime membership" and I received a similar email recently. Haven't bothered to do anything about it yet...

Hi,

Due to a technical glitch your trackers have been deactivated. I have now reactivated them and you should see them in your account once again.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Happy again......

They stitched me up when I bought mine, the eBay description said 'lifetime' but they refused to honour it.

Dear Mark,

I'm sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the situation. Please let me explain the reason of this confusion;

We have ended the Free lifetime subscription in February 2015 and it was an introductory offer which was valid for two months only. As you can appreciate this is a service where your tracker sends hundreds of thousands of position updates to our servers in a year and you log-in to the control panel to retrieve this information. The server machines we rent costs hundreds of pounds, database maintenance administrators who work on these servers work at £200 hourly rates. Yet we charge only £10 a year for this service after the first year. This £10 barely pays for the costs and we do not make any profit from the server subscriptions.

If you check the listing again, you will notice that we have mentioned "1 year" inside the main body of the listing in two different places. We seem to have forgot to remove the "lifetime" text from the bottom part, which is a plain text code which we only add for the search engines to read our listings. Our listing descriptions are uploaded as image files, not text codes and for this reason we add some text right at the bottom for the search engines.

Looking at the main body of the listing where all the information is provided with fancy design compared to some plain text at the bottom, one can understand that we simply have forgotten to change the text... Unless you skipped the pages of the listing design and just read the text at the bottom ?

Kind regards,
Bilen

Hi,

Thankyou for activating the tracker... however I see that it's only been activated for a period of 12 months.
In the auction description, at the bottom of the page, it clearly stated "FREE LIFETIME WEB TRACKING SUBSCRIPTION".

Can you tell me if you intend to honour the agreement, if not, I would like to send the tracker back for a full refund please.

Regards,

Mark.

I emailed them as above and they have extended my 3 trackers to 2025 - so lifetime in this case is about 9 years!! I will be surprised if cheap Chinese disposable electronics will still be working then though so probably good enough. I bought my trackers a year or 2 ago though so I guess it was before they changed the wording...

more than likely the 2G phone network will be cut off first, which will stop them working.

Looking at getting a tracker as I've ordered an expensive car that I want to keep!

Was looking at Smartrak professional trackers but worried that the warranty will be affected on the new car and 1 insurance quote I got was actually dearer if a tracker was fitted. Was thinking of fitting and just not saying but then worried they wouldn't pay if there was a claim.

So, looking at this thread this may work. Couple of questions. How do you guys power the TK102? Battery life is very short so guess it needs to be plugged in. I'd want to do it in such a way that it couldn't be claimed to be hardwired and affect the warranty.
Also, if you have movement sensing and geo fencing switched on, how easy is it to switch them off quickly before you get in the car to go somewhere? I wouldn't want it going off every time I went out in the car as it will be my daily driver.

Thanks.

Mine aren't on cars, but they are connected to the battery which is on constant trickle charge, works very well.

Very easy to disable movement, shock and stockade functions from the app, it basically auto completes a text message you just then have to press send. If you want to disable two functions then you would need to send two separate text messages. I don't think you can group commands.

Thanks.
Tempted by the TK104 due to the larger battery. On a previous car I piggy backed off a cigarette lighter socket to run another one to a better location to power a sat nav. Guess I could do the same to keep the TK104 battery topped up as the car will be used almost daily.
Depends where I can fit the unit itself I guess.
The alternative is direct to the battery, which is in the boot, but then that's obvious and the first place a thief would look I guess.

IIRC my TK102 will run for about 3 days if disconnected from the main battery, so should be long enough if the vehicle is stolen and the battery disconnected. It's actually very small so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a suitable place, also comes with a magnetic back.

Anyone use the Automatrics Mtrack tracking device and service?

Seen here: http://www.trackersecurity.co.uk/

Seems to be a great system and brings together the best of a normal wired in tracker, a Tracker (with RF tracking as well as GPS and GSM) and a stand alone battery powered unit like the TK102. Can be moved to a new car if you change it too.
Granted it's more expensive to buy than the TK102 plus the annual subscription (although cheaper than other tracker subscriptions by the look of it) but then it is monitored.
Their website shows a lot of success stories.

I'm looking to get one for peace of mind rather than insurance purposes and, given it's not wired in, there's no need to tell your insurers anyway (which in some cases puts UP the premium, bizarrely). I want to know as soon as the car moves from where it's supposed to be, that way providing more chance of finding it and not having to claim on the insurance.

Just looking for reviews of people that have Mtrack and any other thoughts on it people may have. I already know the debate over "would you want it back" or not and I would.
Thanks.

Mine are wired in in different ways. On one car it is hard wired to the accessory circuit. It draws so little current it doesn't flatten the battery. On another car it's just connected to the ignition switched cig lighter, as long as I use the car every few days it's fine, if I don't it stops working but comes back to life when I drive the car again. The daily is a BMW with a permanent live cig lighter. Yes, it sends me a text every time I get in the car (vibration sensor) but it lets me know it's still working.

To be honest, I have found it's very reliable, although the online app only keeps logs for a couple of months.

12v socket hardwired to the battery with an inline fuse, then a plug-in USB adaptor, easy peasy.

think I've figured my install out - fused wire to permanently live cigarette lighter socket, hiding unit behind dash

just need to get on with it now, as my TK104 has been sat there for the last 4 months!

So having had a poke around some of these, which options are out there with a 3G/4G module instead of the old 2G stuff? Just looking for something that will continue to work for a while.

Also, any recommended sources for the TK type units? Looking for the 'proper' ones and not the simpler copies.

only 3G stuff I've seen at a below £100 price, involves importing 10 of them from China.

I have a "official" Rewire TK102.
is it correct that since i configured it to online tracking (using the rewire app to send the commands) - that when i call it i no longer get a text google maps response?. at the moment it seems to require me to send it a "check" text which responds with stats, and also wakes it up to update the live tracking server.
Just received a 'Rewire Security' TK102 in the post this morning and have been fiddling around with it for much of the day.

In response to the above question, I experienced a similar issue after having to add an admin phone number in order to set up the shock and geofence features - found that once setting up your admin number as instructed (e.g. +447859xxxxxx), it would no longer recognise the number you were calling from as most UK networks send this without the +44 (i.e. 07859xxxxxx). So add your number without the +44 as a second admin number et voila - will respond to your call location requests again.

Still playing with mine and not really getting on with the app and GPSLive website if I'm honest, plus reluctant to shell out more money on a subscription - you only get a 7 day trial with it now. Not really sure I need or want live tracking anyway for what I'm planning to use it for.

I may be able to set it up for what I need it for solely using the commands but am still working it out - I am after...
- Sleep when not in use (but keep GSM active so can still send location requests)
- Wake and alert when vibration detected
- Alert when moves outside of a geofence (looking to set up 3 geofences)
- Stop alerting (or don't keep sending alerts) after the first either vibration or geofence alert
- 'Re-arm' after it has been still for a while, then same alert parameters above apply

Not sure I even need the GPRS active for the above? Happy just to go with SMS messages (Giffgaff to Giffgaff so doesn't cost anything for the first three months).

Any help welcomed!

Hi all.
What are people's opinions on the rewire devices?
Having just bought a new car, I would like a tacker fitted

Well I can confirm that a giffgaff 4G card works in a TK102-Nano, took a bit of setting up and testing but works brilliantly.
What did you have to do?

Also (to others):

- where did the £15 unit come from?
- did it have detailed manuals with it?
- did that seller offer the hardwiring kit?

Thanks!

Was a while ago now and I don't have them anymore, I think it just took time to set up all the options and the stockade coordinates, well worth the effort in the end though.
