Simple and cost effective would be a simple and (very well hidden) switch and relay on an imperative circuit of the car i.e fuel pump, ignition, start/run enabled sensor or starter exciter wire (more beneficial on an automatic). If it's hidden well and clever enough it would prevent most and I imagine be very difficult to bypass in a theft situation.
Would prevent the vehicle being driven off even with access to your keys being stolen, obviously wouldn't prevent a break in. To be honest there's not a lot that can be done to prevent someone actually accessing your vehicle with lock picks and the good old fashioned brick through the window. Just don't keep anything valuable in there.
A security post isn't a bad shout if car's sat on the drive/garage would deter slightly the ability to tow it away.
As others have said if they want it, they'll take it. If they've got a low loader, crane there 'ent much your gonna do to stop them.

The problem isn't in preventing theft, it's about preventing physical harm to you and your family.
If your vehicle is desirable enough, they will quite happily break in and beat the keys out of you. You're better off just ensuring it's suitable locked and the keys are in a drawer and if challenged simply tell them where they are.
That's why you have insurance.
CCTV, bollards, extra immobiliser systems etc. only stop opportunistic thieves.

Steering wheel lock for initial visual deterrent and also an Autowatch Ghost for real back up (Google it).
Tracker too if you can afford it, but the above 2 should be ok. With the Ghost, they cant take the car, even with your car keys.
Of course as mentioned before, the low loader would be their last hope to steal the car.
