Hello,

Today I learned, that building computers for three decades means absolutely nothing in the world of in-car audio entertainment. I have a technical question, it's probably really simple to answer and I'm probably going to look like an idiot. But here goes:

My car: is a 2006 Nissan Note. I wanted to replace the stock CD player with a bluetooth MP3 player so I could listen to music directly to my phone.

My new sparkly music thingy is a Pioneer MVH-390BT.

The problem is thus: When I got the checkout in Halfords, the bloke serving me said that it wouldn't slot straight in to my car, and to make it work in conjunction with my steering wheel controls I'd need an adapter cable, which I duly bought for another 35 quid.

So I got home and got to work.

To my surprise, WITHOUT the adapter, the new unit slotted straight into the ISO that my old CD player was connected to. But as promised by the gentleman in Halfords, there was nowhere in the Pioneer to connect the steering wheel volume controls.

The thing is...this kit, which is apparantly specific to my car, doesn't seem to fit anything.

Here's the kit

it comes with this bit which connects up to it:

Here's the back of my stereo

If I connect the ISO coming out of the back of the Pioneer into the adapter kit, it just leaves a bunch of connectors that don't fit anywhere.

Am I missing something REALLY obvious? biggrin

Thank you in advance, and again, apologies for the stupidity.

Thanks for the pointer - and for going the extra mile with the image resize and guide.

Is it coceivable that the ISO connector on the conversion kit just does nothing?

The kit in the image makes use of the additional steering control wires in the ISO connector.

So you'll have Car wiring > kit in the image > Car stereo wiring.

This is correct the connects2 box uses some magic and the remote lead like the 3.5mm jack goes in the back of the stereo.

Uhh okay, thanks...

So my problem is that the ISO coming out of the car will connect to the connector kit, but then I see no way to attach said connector kit to the stereo.

Again, I apologise for my complete and utter stupidity.

Your stereo should have come with a cable that connects the stereo to standard ISO (Orange line):

You're right, the stereo does have a cable to connect to a standard iso, but when I connect it to the iso in the adapter kit there's nothing left to connect to the car itself... Hope I'm making sense.

Good sir, forgive me, but it doesn't make sense to my simple mind.

We have the two iso male cables from the stereo going into the iso females in the converter kit, which doesn't at all connect to the car.

... Or I can connect the stereo directly to the car, leaving out the concerter kit altogether and sacrificing the steering wheel controls.

I know I'm new to this, but I've surely missed something here.

EDIT:

I only just saw the part about the vehicle wiring harness.

Hmm, I can't see a connector like that anywhere

As the picture. Your steering wheel control box of tricks should connect to the car loom. This goes in between the car and the cable adapter that came with the stereo. The adapter that came with the stereo then goes between the steering wheel control cable and the stereo. Then there's a 3.5mm cable that gives steering wheel control info from the steering wheel control box to the stereo.

It does sound like you have the wrong adapter. Model number?
