Just spent a rather pleasant 6 hours trying to update maps on my satnav. First problem, Garmin express wouldn't find satnav connected to PC, then it did, sort of? Then warning come up in windows 10 saying there was a problem with the garmin hard drive and did I want to fix it??
So, I've done all this crap in a constant loop all night, other problem came up once there wasn't enough free space on satnav to install new maps!! , this being the maps it doesn't want to install in the first place, no matter what!
Took the huff and formatted the bloody thing, hoping nice clear drive would help, but nope, software, map installs just fail?? Help!

I used to have a lot of issues updating my garmin Satnavs but things seem a lot better with the latest garmin express version.

It is still very sensitive to the usb cable used, I keep a genuine garmin one which seems to avoid a lot of connection issues.

With regard to the insufficient memory, I have had to put memory cards in all my garmins to get round this, no memory size issues now.

That is pretty much the limit of my garmin update knowledge. Hope you get yours sorted,

I had this with Garmin that i had bought of ebay and it needed a couple of factory resets (power button for 20 secs) to sort it out but is now fine. Prior to this it kept going to sleep during the update which then caused the update to crash. I had already tried various cables, etc. The other area to investigate is what USB mode it is trying to use, there is some advice here http://www.poi-factory.com/node/41416

Strange that you're having issues,
I've had multiple Garmin units for nearly 2 decades now and have multiple maps for the various areas of the world I travel in, I update all of them, and the .jcv etc files twice a year and have only ever had one issue that was easily overcome.

That said, I don't use any of the Garmin software to actually update, I just plug the unit straight into the computer and copy and paste the .img file over the top of the existing one. Most of my maps are on SD cards and they're just copied to update as well. Maybe try that route, it might be more straightforward?
