My old Peugeot 206 still has its original head unit and i assume original speakers.

The head unit is made by Clarion and looks like this.

I cant find any info regarding how much power it puts out and would rather not change it as it works and the display is external so i don't want to get involved with an aftermarket unit if i can avoid it.

The sound is just a bit ste, especially with the roof down, and i was looking for tips on beefing it up a bit without breaking the bank.

I am not wanting subwoofers in the boot or anything. I was thinking more along the lines of just swapping out the four speakers for something a bit better quality. Maybe getting something a little bassy for the rear speakers but they are quite small at 10cm and i am not sure how much depth i have.

If i were just to look at getting some budget pioneer speakers from ebay I would be looking at about £70 for 2 x 10cm (rear) and 2 x 17cm (front) but i am not sure if i would just be wasting £70 if i swapped the speakers but kept the old Head unit. or indeed, whether the cheap Pioneer speakers would be any better than the standard speakers that are currently in it!

Any tips?

I have found the full dimensions for the speakers, and they seem to be quite shallow but i don't know if i can get away with deeper speakers..i guess i need to investigate!
Front Speaker is : 16.5 cm diameter 5cm depth (top of cover to bas of magnet)
Rear Speaker is : 10 cm diameter 4.5cm depth (top of cover to bas of magnet)

I would personally just replace the headunit. Pugs of that era use standard iso connections so should be plug and play (you might need an aerial adaptor and that’s it)

I wouldn’t worry about the external display with an aftermarket unit it simply just shows time/date etc on it (like the stereo is off). You might be able to get an adaptor if you are really desperate for it to work though. You can fit some speakers instead but at the end of the day they will still be powered by the same source so improvements will be limited
