Long story short I’ve been trying to get a company car for nearly a year but we have to pick from a list provided. I’ve tried ordering Mercs cla estate, a4 se estate, superb and arteon and passats.

You guys probably know more than me but there has been some sort of CO2 reg changes or whatever.
All VAG cars and Merck’s have disappeared from the list

The only things worth considering are BMW 318d SE Saloon Or X2 M Sport X model.

So bottom spec 3 series or top speck X2 ( makes no sense because the Audi I ordered was 37.5 k and you can get the m package 3 series for that)

I know nothing about either car what would you Do? I’ve never even seen an SE 3 series and neither had the sales guy I talked to. All I see have the M kit on.

What variant is the X2? 18d/20d? Auto/manual?

I have yet to see a new G20 SE 3 series but I think they come with a decent amount of kit inside unlike the X2 which would be very basic as it’s a lot cheaper to start with.

18 automatic diesel

Spec seems comparable almost identical. X2 gets spoilers big wheels etc and leather.

Se will have small wheels etc and no sill trims, spoilers whatnot and cloth seats.

Price is almost identical too

m sport x x2 £33.5k

k and 3 series se 32.5k

Poor colour but this is the SE, won’t look as cool or sporty as the X2 but I think this would be the better car to have, has the newer infotainment with a lot more space.

If you could get the 3 series with leather, definitely go for it. Those cloth seats aren’t even cloth, more like plastic and they very poor quality.

The new 3 series and I’ve had 11 days and over 1k Miles in 2 , 320d M Sports, is a massively better driving experience than my 2017 X1 20d M Sport was.
The X2 is going to be similar to the X1 so like for like , I’d find the X2 inferior.

In your choices I’d expect 318 to be quicker as it weighs less. So the only issue is whether the SE trim is a problem.

In prior generations the seats and suspension would put me off SE. But I don’t know what’s changed in this generation and could you spec. sports seats and adaptive suspension ?

If you like cars and driving, a 318 is going to be better than an X2. The X2 is a front wheel drive platform with part time AWD and the 3 is rear driven. I would expect a 318 to be a little more economical too.

If you don't care, then the X2 might be a (slightly) more practical load lugger. It any also impress poeple who neither know anything about not care about cars.

No. I’d have to pay up front for options for some reason on bmw and Audi . It’s an on line ordering system.
Something I’d rather not do as this whole thing is costing me a lot anyway. Currently opt out personal car £550 a month a 40p a mile. Going to bic at higher rate and 11p I generally buy a cheap car with a three year loan. I still make money and the 4th year I just cash in and of course I have an asset to sell too.

I’ve no idea why we use this company I they had one with the m plus 2.2k option which was 37.5k same as the Audi I ordered in the show room.

Got to admit the x2 in yellow does look good but I think you’re right the 3 will be a better car.

Funnily the boot is a lot bigger on the 3 but opening small. I do carry a lot of stuff for work.

Just to add. 25k - 30k miles a year for work what’s important is seats with lumbar support. I’m getting old.

Speed not so much, in fact slower the better to discourage me from gaining points. But I appreciate good steering so 3 again looks good.

Just a thought, but why not just keep taking the car allowance and get the freedom to choose something you actually like?

I never had that option back in 1992 when I got my 1 and only company car, so I sold what I had only to find the firm folded by the end of the year and I had to give the company car back!

So next time I qualified for a company car in 2004 I just took the allowance and interest free loan and bought something I wanted that was way better than anything on the company list. laugh

That would be the plan but company policy changed with new owners. I’ve got to get one.

Took the family to the BMW dealer yesterday all picked the X2 but my daughter didn’t like the gold that I like but apparently I like drug dearer cars. Yeah I don’t know either.

Doesn’t matter you can’t order it anyway. Company is a joke although I’m sure it’s something to do with vag group engines etc

These are what I’ve tried to order so far

Merc cla estate, was thinking of a 300c se but that disappeared.
Vw arteon,Passat saloon,estate.
Skoda Octavia vrs, superb l&v ( this is actually all I want a superb.
I did manage to order an a4 avant se. Manager signed off got confirmation only to get an email a few weeks later saying tough st can’t have it now. Yet I went to a Audi dealer and they said no problem we will get on the system and it will be about 3-4 months.

All that’s left now is very small petrol engine stuff there are focus on there but that’s 8 a mile and I have a heavy right foot whenever I’ve driven small petroleum engines cars I get disastrous mpg.

So it’s the BMW and that’s it. I’d be happy with a superb because the hatch and boot are perfect for all my gear and the L&v is fully loaded and I ticked massage seats and the cost extra to me was something like £30 it was pretty much the only other option to tick.

Anyway I’ll order this tomorrow
