Old alpine in-car infrared headphone system

This might be a long shot, but does anyone have an Alpine infrared headphone system wired into their car? A used car I purchased has one, including a DVD player and back-of-headrest screens, and I'm trying, without much success, to get the infrared headphones working, which isn't helped by the fact that I don't actually know how they are supposed to work!

I'm pretty sure this might be a standard thing we have a dvd player/screen in the back of the family wagon and it uses IR with any 3rd party "in car " kids headphones
