Turns out the unit has had it. I asked about possible repair but the guy seemed to reckon it wasn't worth trying. Will stick it on eBay as 'faulty', bit gutting as it will cost circa £400 for a replacement.
Bummer.May as well replace it with a decent Android unit https://xtrons.co.uk/volkswagen
Thanks for the replies. I've been given the details of an official pioneer repairer (company called dtronix) and they charge £30 diagnosis fee which I am considering. The local guy that told me about them said this
'2-3 years ago Pioneer EU closed ours & other independent companies spares / tech support accounts down. Often these type of units require updated software programming with repair and we can no longer do this'.
Other option is get a second hand/refurb unit as above, one just sold on eBay with a cracked screen for £80 which would have been ideal as i could have just swapped over, typical.
Have considered an android unit but the ones above seem similar price to the pioneers, are they any better?
Things I want is DAB, ability to get maps on the screen (Google/Waze) and something to play music from the phone like Spotify. Anything else is a bonus but looking at the most cost effective options now, want to keep it to a couple of hundred quid max if possible.

There is one on ebay for £235 right now.'2-3 years ago Pioneer EU closed ours & other independent companies spares / tech support accounts down. Often these type of units require updated software programming with repair and we can no longer do this'.

I reckon you’d get £50 for yours as spares or repair?
