Tracker- worth it or not?

Hi

I’ve a new Elise on order, and am considering a tracker.

How much % on average does it reduce insurance by?

Is it worth it financially year by year? Or only if the car gets nicked and there’s an excess to pay and then increased future premiums?

You'll save next to nothing on insurance.

All it does is widen the selection of insurers willing to quote for a specific group of car.

Mine was cheaper through an insurer that didn't ask, than it was through an insurer who required a tracker...although the question was "Do you have a tracker fitted?" and not "Do you have a working tracker fitted and a subscription in place?".

the GPS ones are easy to beat, £20 gizmo that plugs in the lighter slot blocks the GPS signal, stick it in a shipping container blocks it

I wouldnt pay for it unless it was a very special car that i would be very upset if stolen and want it back

Look at an AutomatricsMtrack tracker. There are some good videos on YouTube of them going out and finding your property.

My car had tracker when I bought it - as already said, some insurers insist on it.

My insurer didn't - and the annual tracker subscription was about £50 a year more than the increase in premium for not having tracker - so I ditched it. Obviously it reduces the chances of getting the car back if it was stolen - but I don't particularly want it back if it's stolen.

True, though in the few videos I watched they do get the vehicle back and most of the time the Police turn up. I also like the fact the thieves don't get away with it.

Most trackers have geo fence, anti tamper and other alerts. If someone manages to get inside the car to use the cigarette lighter (really!) then the owner will already be notified or unless you have a container on the back of a truck and stick it straight in (without ever opening it up again) then that won’t work either.
GPS still works in containers just not as well.

After thieves had destroyed my house door, presumably to steal my car keys while my family were in the house. This is personal.

It’s not about the car but about fking over the thieves for what they have done. I don’t care about getting the car back as long as the tracker leads the police to them or their hiding place and ruins their criminal enterprise. Especially if it’s before the thieves can profit from selling any parts from my car.

I would happily pay to fk these thieves over.

And nothing like a proper tracker that actually monitered which is the key part as we'll as the ability for police to track the car

I’ve used Meta and Automatrics on cars … both great and the Automatrics unit as battery operated can be placed anywhere which gives it a much greater appeal than the normal units that have to be wired in to a power source thus easier to locate.
