Hi all,

I'm new here but hoping you can help. I have a 2016 Seat Alhambra and a couple of weeks back (during a rainy week which I don't think is relevant) the fuse blew for my radio. The car has android auto / DAB / rear parking camera screen setup which is all now unusable. I replaced the fuse and it again blew so took to Seat today. They confirmed the wiring was all OK (and couldn't see any signs of water ingress). They changed the fuse and it started working but a slight shake of the unit again blew the fuse. The garage don't do repairs of the units so would be ~2k for a new unit which I'm trying to avoid paying, hence my post.

Now, it transpires that perhaps, maybe, my children had posted some coins into the CD drive, something with seldom use but I guess it's possible said conductive metal objects could now be dancing their way around and causing this mischief, or perhaps not. But I want to understand firstly whether anyone has experience with this case / these units and would know how hard they are to 1. extract and 2. take apart (I'm relatively handy). And secondly, whether anyone had any other suggestions to diagnose or repair. I'm in Camberley, Surrey so welcome any recommendations of garages you think would take on a "repair". I guess if it actually is in need of replacement, £2k would get me a much nicer "upgrade" than just paying Seat to put the same thing back in.

Thanks in advance for any advice, welcome abuse about children posting coins.

My first thought was kids posting stuff!

I think you have nothing to loose opening it up, could be a bit of loose solder

Post pics up if nothing jumps out at you, some clever folks here

If this is the headunit that comes with the car, opening it up will be a right pain. Were it me, I'd disconnect it from the car completely and shake it violently to listen for any rattles before I attempted to disassemble it.
