In my search for a reasonable priced Sat Nav with European street level mapping
I came accross a "de-luxe" version of the Garmin 510
which also has TMC.
Is this feature any more useful and up-to-date than the RDS
traffic news on FM radio?

The Sat Nav in my Murano has got it - fantastic piece of kit - well worth it.

Both the Garmin and the Navman which I am considering have loads
of dangly wires for the TMC 'bolt on' and aerials with rubber suckers to stick them to the screen.

Is there a 'neat' system ?

Not as yet alas, I've been waiting for something similar myself.

Although I've heard rumours that TomTom will be doing radio TMC as well as their current mobile-based subscription system.

TomTom's RDS-TMC receiver should be available shortly...
