Im looking at buying a road angel compact and was wondering if its worth spending an extra £50 on the laser attachment? also what is the best route for the wires to the ciggie lighter?

Don't get the laser detection piece as the road traffic act 2006 is going to make it illegal

The laser is useless in my opinion, when the police think you are over the limit they turn on the laser which works at the speed of light, so when it hits you it means they have a reading and you have no chance to slow down, all the laser detector is doing when it goes off is saying, YOUR NICKED

Have the built in laser detector on my new road angel. It's never gone off - wouldn't bother again. Better off just slowing down for major fly-overs!

It's quite possibly you've never been targetted or if you have it may've been close range so there wasn't enough spread of the laser to be picked up, there's lots of if's and maybe's with laser. To be honest laser detectors as a whole aren't that useful as they're going to be made illegal anyway which is why I went for the Nav 6000 which costs the same as the compact with laser attachment and you get a combined navigator and camera detector which you can store your own mobile locations on and receive mobile van warnings.

Ive a roadangel classic, i stuck the laser attachment on the unit and hey ho spotted a scamera partner ship van ahead and the thing didnt go off.

I did go mental in the centre of edinburgh opposite the rutland exchange for some bizarre reason.

My laser thingy ( Bel 980) went off when a cop fired his laser at me. I was doing 25 in a 30. Good to know they are not following the rules.

As already posted, laser detectors are absolutely useless ( and i used to sell them!).
If (and its a big if) the unit sounds it is too late. The laser equipment has already got a speed reading.

The only effective units are laser diffusers which actually prevent the laser getting a speed reading. However the legality of using a diffuser is debatable to say the least! Many diffusers are sold as remote garage door openers, so if stopped by the police the owner has a legitimate reason why the unit is fitted.

ACPO Code of Practice says an officer must make a visual assessment of speed and only then, if he thinks an offence is being committed, confirm it with his gun.
