Hi,

I am a new member here but have been lurking reading the various posts etc, I wondered if you guys can throw some timely advise on the following delema please.

I have been using a Navman Icn510 for the last couple of years and have decided for a couple of reasons to upgrade, the Navman has been a really reliable a great unit and has got me to about 98% of my journeys so I have no complaints there.

I have been looking at the Tom Tom 510 and the Snooper Indago as possible replacments with the Navman N40 on the backburner.
Generally the Indago looks good but as yet I cannot find anyone with one in stock to look at. The Tom Tom 510 looks really good and the screen is very clear as are the operations. My son has the Tom Tom Go and for the money that is also a great unit in my humble view.

My main critera is to have reliable speed camera data, I have a original Road Angel Classic at present for that task, and also require full postcode support with a unit that is well thought out and stable in operation.

As far as I can see the Indigo looks good on paper backed by some stalwart endorsees here, it has the subscription Enigma Database which seems highly thought of. The Tom Tom 510 has speed camera data and traffic and the traffic feature would be useful if it worked ok. Some say that the Tom Tom 510 speed camera database is not as fully fledged as the Enigma and that does cause me concern. The same may be true of the Navman N40.

So what are the positives and negatives of all of this guys ? should I get the Indago, 510 or N40 ? the guy I spoke to in Halfords earlier today told me that they did have the snooper Indago in which sat on the shelf for about six months before it sold and due to this they were not having anymore and in any case it did not represent value for money when compared with the 510 or even the 510 with the europe mapping thrown in !

On last thing I was thinking that if I do get the Indago I would get it from a authorised Snooper online dealer just in case I suffered any problems like some here have reported. However there is someone selling the indago on a another auction site for under £250.00, but I do not think that they are authorised snooper dealers so I did not know if they were the best bet as the indago is signifcantly dearer with the authorised snooper dealers.

Well thats it for now any advise welcome

I have been out looking today but can only find Tom Tom and Navman in stock everywhere, I cannot locally locate a Indago and I even rang Snooper today and asked them for dealer list in my area. They were unable to provide any leads with a indago actually in stock ! A manufacturer who cannot provide a dealer list seems very disorganised to me to say the least, I did speak with Snooper Tech Support and they were helpful with a couple of software questions I had.

I have been looking at the Tom Tom 510 with Traffic Pack included at PC world for £ 269.00 which is £70.00 cheaper than than the same deal at Halfords. The Tom Tom 510 has a really good screen and the user interface seems well thought out. I did try out the unit and it was smooth in operation and not clunky at all. What bothers me about the 510 is the Speed camera database being the underdog when compared with the Enigma database and also that as I understand it the Tom Tom Speed Camera Database is NOT directional in operation which would be a P.I.T.A with unnecesarry alerts.

I want to look at the Indago and any help you 510 and Indigo users have would be great.

I currently use tomtom on my pda, and the software is excellent especially being able to use alternative routes, etc. I have also been looking for a good speedcamera unit and have gone for the Road Angel, but when comparing prices it wasn't much different to buy the Road Angel with Satnav (Navigator 7000). My main criteria were no.1 Ease of updating and reliability of the camera database, 2. Ease of operation 3. size (small enough to remove from car in bag / pocket, 4. Satnav.

Sat Nav was put at no.4 as, as above I already have a Tom Tom route, however I have found the satnav set up really good - very clear to understand the commands, and most importantly the volume can go up loud enough for it to be heard in a noisy car! The only negative to my tom tom so far is the alternative route function (But to be fair it does have one, but not quite as precise as say, avoid M1 or A508. You can avoid motorways, and set up a detour by up to 8 miles out of your way.

Another plus point is that it's waterproof (convertible car, in England...) and it runs for a decent amount of time on it's internal battery.

The cheapest place I found it was John Lewis!

Hope that helps,

TomTom is the only choice!!!
And when you do get one get the speed camera database from pocketgpsworld and not TomTom cost £2 a month for at least one update.
I have posted elsewhere on here how to install them.
