Hi Guys,
I am new to this but what I really need is the follwing, in this order:

1) Reliable Camera Detection
2) UK Maps
3) Europe Maps
4) Want to keep to a budget of <£250
(Not bothered about traffic updates, bluetooth, MP3 but if it has it great.)

I have done some research and thought I had narrowed it down to the following in this order:

1) Road Angel Navigator 7000 - thought this would have the best camera database since these guys started with this as their bread and butter, but they did come to the Sat Nav market a little later so wonder what that part of it would be like.
2) Garmin Nuvi 350 - was told their maps are the same ones the military use and were top notch. No idea about their camera database.

I didn't fancy a Tom Tom since they are a bit like a kids toy (or were, only used the early big bulky ones) but if you guys can recommend one over the others then great.

Also read up on here about the Snooper Indago, but its a bit more expensive, so is it really head and shoulders above the others? I couldn't work out if it had Europe Maps as well.

Can someone also give me some insight what sort of subscription prices I would be looking to pay for all these devices. I think I only have to pay to keep the camera database upto date but don't know if you have to pay some sort of subscription too to keep the road database up to date.

Thanks in advance.

If you extend your budget by £70 you should be able to get a Garmin Nuvi 660. I have just come back from a fortnight/2400 miles in France/Switzerland and came back most impressed by my new toy. Clear directions, fast recalculation if you choose not to take a dodgy side road, and the camera databases are sensitive to the direction of travel.

BTW I was pleased that my local Halfords matched the best internet price - I did not want to chance my cash with an internet outfit, and if the unit breaks down I can drop it in to a local store.

I have just bought a Garmin C510D from halfrauds for 199 quid that you can upload all the european maps to (in the box...) and put a GPS database on for cameras etc.

Hi,
I've just been reading through the Halfords website and can't find anything on a camera location database on the 660's description, although it is mentioned on the 600's description.
I was looking at the 310d too, which includes free traffic master for life info. but no camera database.
Apologies if I'm just looking to hard to see!.

My 670 was picking up the variable speed zone on the M25. Also, the section between Jct 12 and 15 where they have widened the motorway and haven't replaced the cameras yet was also accurate - no warning on the 670. Also picked up mobile locations that I wasn't aware of.

Hi there,
I'm really confused now! Are you saying the 670 is good, or bad ('no warning on the 670')?
Does your 670 have traffic master live info too?
Thanks v much

No, it was good it didn't give me a warning between Jct 12 and 15 on M25 since along this section, the replacement cameras for the new gantries haven't been installed yet. Therefore it was "intelligent" enough to know this

Yes it does have the traffic master but not yet tried that part yet.

no competition

buy a TALEX for £50 for speed cameras
and buy a NAVMAN Europe for £150.

The 660 comes with a free 3 month subscription to the Cyclops speed camera data, which is loaded onto the unit as custom POI's. Best option when that expires seems to be to the 'pocketgpsworld.com' safety camera subscription at about £20 per year.

My new 660 is proving to be excellent and is available online for £300 now.

There isn't any huge difference between Garmin and TomTom - TT is possibly more user friendly but there has been a lot of convergence in the various systems. You won't go too wrong with any system you choose. I use TomTom with the Pocket GPS database which is updated by users regularly, and I've never found the system wanting.
