Need a f!ck off Sat Nav / Scamera detector for the UK with extensive mapping for France.

Thinking about visiting a few of the French old racing circuits and driving over to Haut Savoie to visit my governer post CLM 2008.

I know that les flics are seriously anti scamera detector devices but I am not sure how to combat this.

Any help and advice much appreciated.

Freddie.

A Garmin 600 series should see you through without any problems.

The Garmin nüvi 600 series do not 'detect' cameras, they merely report when you approach an area which the database knows includes fixed or mobile camera locations.

Thus my nüvi 660 beeps and bongs annoyingly throughout much of Bliar's totalitarian surveillance society state, but frequently cries "Wolf!" when there is nothing there. But there are some camera sites which it doesn't seem to know about (in the 30mph stretch of the A338 Oxford-Wantage road in East Hanney, for example).

Database updates are available for those countries in which knowledge of camera sites is legal.

A year's UK and France database subscription costs £39 for UK and £29 for France. If you want UK, France and Benelux, it will cost a total of £88 incl. VAT.

Thats what I use, for France you just switch maps, camera databases are loaded, GPS so no problems from Frech Trafpols. Tom Tom is an excellent tool. The biggest problem is that you can get busted for speeding anywhere and have to have eyes in the back of your head in France. I was done last year on the way back from Le Mans, just bad luck (oh, and speeding)... hehe But the French roads are generally fabulous for driving, so what's a man to do yes
