Hi all ...
In market for a top end sat nav.
Tom Tom seem to be most recommended (please feel free to correct me if this is not the case).

Looking at either a 910 or 720

Which is the best? (regardless of cost)

Also check out Garmin - i.e. Garmin 660FM etc, possibly better built.

I had a 910 (stolen), then got the 520, which is the same as 720 without European maps.

I much prefer the 520. Thinner, FM transmitter, and a load of other features the 910 doesn't have. I've no experience with other makes, but between the 910 and 520/720, the 520 wins it for me.

In my book 910 wins hands down. The killer feature of the 910 is that the computer generated voice speaks the road names as well as directions. eg. "Turn left into Lordship Lane" instead of just "turn left". I think this is a great feature as it avoids you needing to look at the screen too much so you can concentrate on the road!

Also the 910 has a internal hard-drive on which you can store MP3s. This is a cool feature and you can easily hook it up to your stereo.

910 also has European and US maps.

You can buy an FM dock - though I tried it and it is crap.

Oh? What did you think was wrong with it?
... I was looking to buy one of those but not for what they charge in the UK!

Yep, I forgot to mention that. The 520/720 doesn't come with an internal hard drive, only an SD card slot. I have a 2Gig card which is ok, but I recall my 910 having something like 20Gig memory.

The 520/720 does have the computer generated voice, btw.

The 520/720 has a computer generated voice but it does not announce street names and places. Only directions "turn left" etc.
