Hi, ive just come across the thread about using a dell pda for satnav, but thought i would start a new thread rather than hijack that one.

I dont have a SatNav and proberbly wouldnt buy one (cost, and priciple).

However i do like a bit of a tinker with gagets, and i have a Palm E2 knocking around that i have never used.

I beleave it can be used at a satnav, with a bluetooth gps receaver (£20 off ebay?), and some suitable software/maps on a SD card.
- With some people mentioning the ViaMachien software.(ive got an SD card, btu unsure where i would get this software?)

I also beleave there are people who sell a cradle for the E2 which has a build in charger and gps receaver.
- But ive only seen them sold with the E2 itself and a 'satnav ready bundle' or whatever.

Just wondering how feasable it is to setup, otherwise i might just sell the E2 and use it to fund the buying of a slightly better map! (£20 navigtor, rather than a £1.99 tescos thing, leaving a few quid in the pocket to go on a seven...)

Im also not sure the E2 can make sound. But that doesnt really bother anyway.

Yes it will work. you need a Haicom cradle with detachable GPS receiver. I see this item on ebay for £49.99 +P&P. Search ebay with the term gps e2. If you already have an SD card you then only need the tomtom software for PDA. It is available.

Ok, that looks fair enough.
- Its not cheap at £50 tho is it!

I guess its a lot neeter than having a separte gps receaver, and cradle, and charger, and charger for the receaver, etc. Which is what my mate has with his phone.

Odd really that palm done make more of a thing of this, no mention on there site of it being able to support gps, you would have thought they might even make there own cradle.

Ah well, Thanks mate.
