Have you tried updating your Talex recently?

I tried about 10 days ago, it worked but the database cycle hadn't change which was unusual for them.

Tried again last night and this morning - It connects to the internet but then drops out ...

Tried having a look on their web site for any info - get re-directed to a domain supplier!

Tried ringing their number .. its dead!

I can only presume they have ceased trading???? - a real shame.

Hi outmyway, I heard this, too. As I recently bought one, I did some trawling on the net re the updates and came across this forum thread (via google).

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/ice-security-insura...

In case you dont want to trawl through the thread, then a contributer on there, namely "anewman", posted these links to the new update sites as the novus site crashes when you go to the update page. I hope that he doesn't mind me putting these links on here after his hard work! (cheers, by the way if you post on here!)

USB drivers http://novusgps.com/usbdriver.zip
Talex http://novusgps.com/Talex_Update.zip
Talex lite http://novusgps.com/TalexLite_Update.zip

Hope this helps someone as I did manage to get the latest update last night (which is the November one, by the way). One thing is that the new update facility gives you the option of deleting your own "user positions" so BE VERY CAREFUL if you update so as not to delete your own postions.

Cheers, Jon smile

Seems to be the same directors as Embedded Tech, although the Nigel J Carter of Embedded Tech is now Nigel Carter and David Andrews who left Embedded Tech in August 2007 is the other director. Novus was called Embedded Trading until it changed its name to Novus.

Thanks JONSCZ for those links ... and WHYOWHY for the company info ...

I got my Talex Lite to update OK with the new utility, although its the same database cycle I last got from Talex number 7113.

I was hoping the M4 Slough average speed cameras would have been added by now to a new database cycle.

Good news they are going to continue to support the devices ... I just hope they continue to keep a very up to date database with regular updates as before.

I was 1.5yrs into a 3yr subscription, but its great news they are still trading, albeit under a different name.

I suspect Talex's foray into the world of GPS Sat Navs proved a costly affair, and looks like Novus will concentrate on just their excellent proven speed camera detectors.

Latest updates (8015)are now available from Talex or from Novus. If you previously updated your Lite using the Novus update 7113 then its likely that your Talex update utility will not recognise your unit. The Novus Delta update will however update your Talex Lite.

Only issue I have with the Novus update is that the Talex used to give you 5% grace on your indicated speed before telling you to slow down (e.g.) up to 32 mph at 30, 53 mph at 50 etc. Now as soon as you hit 30 in a 30 camera zone you are told to reduce speed.

Not a big problem I know, but annoying when you were used to being able to do an indicated 74 in a 70 zone before being nagged to death by that very nice lady from talex.

The old Talex company had a spat at director level as far as I can glean.

Novus appears to have "misappropriated" the Talex database. Novus are a new company who also got all our e-mail details from Talex. I think some old Talex directors went here and to the new talex co.

The TALEX update site is now working again and they are honouring subscriptions under new ownership.

You may need to reconfirm some details.

Any problems e-mail info@talex.co.uk for support.

I am suspicious of free updates to be honest - tight as I am I figure a good database costs money to maintain. The Fuzion, although similar to Talex, is pants.

Actually that's a pain in the Arze - it was bad enough when they dropped it from 10% to 5%. I think dirty tricks are afoot if Novus blocks you from updating on Talex after.

This is a real shame - its the best and almost cheapest unit - I hope this does not ruin it. I'd say stick with Talex update until your subs run out and then have a long hard think. Hopefully some clarity will come.
