I bought a Tom Tom one for one of our engineers who has now left. He returned the Tom Tom but with no SD card. Is the card specific to the unit ? ie does it have Tom Tom data on it or will any SD card work ? Have tried new 1G and 512M cards but the unit doesn’t seem to like those. Has the former employee run off with all the important data or do I need to press the reset button ? I have all the rest of the pack, CD, Instructions leads etc but can't see anything of help there.

Think I have now deduced that the maps were on the missing SD card, so to get it going I need to buy another map. The question now is if I buy a downloadable one will it install on a blank card or does it have to be specially formatted for the Tom Tom ?

Got mine working again by copying the data onto an sd card borrowed from my digi camera. Format, copy and paste.

Andy, Do I understand this right ? You formatted the card in your camera, then it worked in Tom. I do seem to remember that a camera I have somewhere has a card format function. I fact it pops up on the PC as a USB drive.

I copied the files from a working tomtom go sd card from a colleauges unit onto my pc. I then copied the files onto the spare sd card (which I had formatted under windows)and hey presto! It worked.

When you copy the files from the good sd card, the pc tries by default to put them into a folder called 'tom tom/H drive' or similair, with H being the card reader slot. When you copy bsck to the new sd card drill down 1 level and copy all the files in their original file format.

IIRC the files take up about 213mb

I asked the same question of the TomTom support people via their web site and got a rather vague reply. They did imply that I should be able to simply load a map straight onto the card. The other question I asked which was not answered or even referred to was:- The unit I have was sold as a TomTom UK. If I buy a Europe map will it run in this unit or is it restricted internally to UK ?
